it can depend on your ps2, which version it is. also what type of dvd writer you have

most people appear to use dvd -R's because they work on more of the versions

i however use dvd +r's and have no problems with them, its just down to finding a solution that works for you

i have the ps2 slim with a dms4 pro chip i do not have a burner yet i am going to buy on today

The DMS4 Pro will play anything, that's what i have in my slim PSTwo also.
Also if you have not already had it installed get the Toxic flash. ToxicOS V0.2 is what i have but there is a newer version Vo.3 out now.
But i still do all my games on -R and movies on +R
Just get good media and a good burner and you should have no problems.
