XBConnect and games on HDD

I was at my friends house the other night and we were trying to play Halo on xbconnect, while running the game off the hdd. However, we kept getting out of sync messages during the games and it reset the game. When we tried running it off the original disc, it worked fine. Anyone know any solutions to this problem? Thanks.
