I've read a couple of things in this forum and learn a bit about the current issues about the PSTwo with mod chips. A lot of people are suggesting flip flop + Magic Swap combo.
Now my question is, which version of flip flow allows you to close the lid and which one does not? Is there a good website (in the US) that sells them in a combo?
Last question, will I also need the Ghost Switch + flip flop + Magic Swap or is the flip flop + Magic Swap is enough?
The goal is to play back up games without modifying the PSTwo with maximum games compability.
try getting an actual chip like DMS4 EZI Pro it`s a no solder chip and has a very good boot rate almost 100% but you will have to be careful with the parts it is very delicate if you are opening the system might as well put a chip in it this chip only works on system version 5 through 12 I think
Hi
The solderless chip does not work on a version 12 PStwo (slimline) i use a magic switch and swap magic 2.2 and 3.3, but instead of using the part that fits into the hinge i opened the system and put a small piece of blutack over the sensor it works like a charm. Check out this site on how to install the switch http://www.jspot.net/ps2.htm
There are a few modchips that people have ben installing on V12s. However, as of now, probably the most popular combo is the Swap Magic + slim tool set.
I have a fliptop, and a lot of us fliptop users have the same problem : incosistent manufacturing of the lid. It'll fit flawlessly on some systems, and sometimes not at all. A lot of people find themselves having to remove the fliptop spring that ejects the tray up, and some people end up having to put a weight down on the lid in order for the sensors to read the lid as down.
The slimtool is much easier to install, usually has less inconsistency problems, and is the preferred method of the people here.
You can go ahead with the modchip, if you'd like, but a fliptop with Swap Magic is also a very good choice.
The only real difference is price, installer availability, and the hassles required in getting a system modded. With a slim tool and Swap Magic, you could be playing backups within 5 minutes.
Anyways, the choice is ultimately up to you. There's only ONE fliptop lid for V12s, you can check it out at http://www.ps2lid.com, the slim tool can be hard to get in the US, but it'll actually accomplish everything that the fliptop can.
What swap magic can't do that the newest, most expensive modchips CAN do : direct booting of games, play DVD9s (but a there's a new version of Swap Magic that WILL let you play DVD9 backups, so don't let that stop you from getting a swap mod), play homebrew games and allow you to have an environment to run user-developed programs, load programs off of a USB drive (Swap Magic 3.6 will let you do that, however), play DVDs region free (otherwise, you can do that by yourself easily with DVD Decrypter), most importantly, Swap Magic will not let you play high TOC CD-based games or DVD-rips (that one's really tough to do).
In any case, while the v12 users here will mostly agree that Swap Magic with a fliptop of magic tool is a great solution, and doesn't have the risks of laser burnout that's associated with running a modchip, in the end, it's really up to you.
