Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me, I have some DVD's with VOB files and I need to be able to edit them in Adobe Premier LE, this programme will not import VOB files and converting them to AVI files means I end up with a file of around 50 GB. I have recorded some camcorder footage to DVD using a Phillips DVD Video Recorder so as to keep the best quality, but now I find I can't transfer these to my computer to edit them, is there a format I can convert these VOB files to that Premier will recognise. The DVD's each contain separate footage of a concert around 1 hour 30 minutes in length and I want to keep this file complete and not split it, if anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Regards

You do not want to use Premier to edit these VOB files and I"ll tell you why...First off you would Have to convert the VOB files to a different Format to get Premier to accept them which will degrade the Quality and then when you load the Files into Premier and editing them you will Loose even More Quality when you render the Edited Files...And then if you wish to Put the editied Files back on to DVD you will have to re-encode the Files Yet again which will Ruin the Quality even More so after all of this Wasted Time Converting and rendering you will end up with a DVD that Looks Like Total Crap and isn"t even worth Watching....

What you need to use is a Native Mpeg editor Like "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" which will Load your VOB files and let you edit them with Effects and Transitions without affecting the Quality and when you render the edited File there will be No Quality Loss and the Rendering will only take a Few Minutes as Opposed to many hours with Premier......

The only way to edit VOB/Mpeg-2 files in premier without any Quality Loss is to get the "MainConcept Mpeg Pro HD Plugin" for Adobe Premier which will let you edit VOB/Mpeg-2 files in Premier without quality Loss but if your VOB files use dolby AC3 as the audio format then the Plugin will not be able to read the audio in which case useing the "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" would be best as it does Support Dolby AC3 audio.....

Hello,
Thank you for your reply, unfortunately I have been away all week and so I could not reply sooner, could I ask is "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" expensive ? the thing is I am disabled and on a low income, having already shelled out for Premier I have little cash left.

I really appreciate you helping me with this matter.
Kindest regards
Gerald
