I still have time to grab a 25 piece spindle or two of the Verbatim 16x for 9.99.
My question is.. has anyone burnt both Verbatim media and TY 8x at 16x and compared the two?? Does the Verbatim produce better results at it's rated 16x speed than the 8x TY at 16x??
Since my TYs burn at 16x and - without the benefit of PIF scanning - they come out without any errors or playback issues, is it worth it to grab the 16x Verbatims or just keep stocking up on the TYs and FujiFilm TYs...

Thanks...

sounds like you should get all three!. When my stock of 8x Verb's are gone i may well start buying 16x, but saying that if they reduce the 8x enough i'll just keep buying those a while longer.

I don't personally overburn DVDs, it's taken me this long to burn 8x at 8x, but others seem to do it a lot

I just don't know if it would be financially worth it.. seeing as next week Best Buy has the 100 spindle of FujiFilm for 40 bucks..

HAHAHAHAHA...just buy everything ~!!

j/k :)

i have burned using ALL 3 of the aforementioned media, while i prefer the TYs (slightly by a hair) over the Verbs, i can't complain much about using either one~ the 8x TYs i have are terrific, i only picked up 2 25pks of the 16x verbatim and even though they burn faster, i keep ALL my burns now at 8x regardless of media rating~

so, to answer your question, they are both equally as good, after running my scans on them after the burn, i notice very little in errors, mind you that you might have higher errors if you burn at the 16x speed, i believe that if you keep your burns at 8x or lower, you should be just fine~

i can easily burn my TYs 8x dvd+r at 12x or even 16x sometimes on my other burners, but i always set the max speed at 8x. that is just personal preference~ i don't think you will go wrong if you do pick up more of the 16x verbs, but, i just find that going with the TYs 8x is just more cost effective at least for me~ whenever local stores have sales on good media, the 25pks for me seem to sell out much faster than the 50 spindle and 100 spindle packs~, so it's harder for me to purchase the 25pks of verbs, that is the ONLY reason why i choose to stick with the TYs 8x , they much easier to obtain~ :)

good luck~ hope i shed a little bit of light on ur dilemna~

yup, that kivory666 is psychic, he can smell a TY or Verb thread at 3000miles!

i was just googling to see how you can PIF scan or similar with an NEC drive, but when i heard my Blackberry beeping, i knew it would be 666 homing in on the words TY..

u know me better than anyone else here on AD creaky~ how you doing buddy? lol

yeah, just had to add my 2 cents~ my TY/Verb radar has been adjusted to fine tune the frequency~ but, i only reply to the relevant ones, not the casual "which is better and explain NOW why that is so..."

i don't like wasting my time on those particular threads~

good day to you~

i'm ok, can't settle tho as it's 26C - at 930pm!. when i came home from work it was 31C. talk about global warming. Luckily the boat was cool enough inside. Watched spongebob squarepants with the kids (it was hilarious) and now having some snakebite (cider & lager, i think its only a British thing, am probably wrong tho). Can't be sitting at the pc for too long as the light from the monitor is attracting huge mosquito things to come in off the water!

Just to clarify what you said, my clairvoyant friend (the Force is stroooooong in you, a powerful Sith Lord you will become..er..sorry...EpIII on the brain..) At 16x, the Verbatims will have higher errors than at 8x even though the media is rated for 16.. and not surprisingly, the 8x TYs will produce slight higher errors when burnt at 16x??
Am I correct in stating that both the Verbatim 16x and TY 8x, when burnt at 16x (geez, this is starting to sound like an algebra problem, all we need now are two trains heading in opposite directions) will produce pretty much equal quality scans??

I am pretty much set on 8x burns, but I do love the ability to burn a disc in 6 minutes.

As always, thank you for your input.

Creaky... I love snakbites. It's a well known concoction with my kind here in NYC and pretty much across the US. Many a night stumbling home because of it. But it does suck when one has to unlace Doc Martens while stinking drunk on snakebites.. :-)

yes, you are correct in your assumption, i try not to burn anything at 16x, even though i can~ just cuz you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD :)

my errors are higher when burning the TY 8x at 16x on my pioneer, but, when burning at 8x on either the 16x verbs or 8x TY, they are equally matched..both play without error or freezing or pixillation, etc.

2ndly, im a wine type of guy~ chianti/merlot/cabernet in that order~ :) while i do not drink to get drunk, i find that sometimes i kill a few bottles without even realizing that im about to pass out~ LOL

good luck w/ those TYs and Verbs~ sorry to get off topic~

oops i'm wandering off topic. i'm usually the guilty one as i prefer to be a bit more personal as i usually get robotic and fling out the replies to threads left right & centre. however we usually bring things back on topic quickly enough. :)

I am surprised that media rated for 16x will produce a high error rate.. or are the errors not significant enough to affect playback??

Looks like I will skip the Verbatim and hold out for the 100 piece spindle of FujiFilm...

the errors are not significant enough to produce choppy video...but, even with the 16x verbs, i suggest you burn at your current 8x to be on the "safe side" :)

so fuji gonna be on sale at best buy next week? maybe i should pick up more myself~ :P

thanks for the tip ~
