I have many many 8mm tapes that my parents made of me and my family when i was little and i am going to transfer them to my computer and burn the DVDs. Only problem is that my parents gave away the Analog Nikon Action 8 camera a little while ago. So i am left with a Sony Digital Camera which of course will not play the tapes. So what are my options of getting the footage off these tapes? I know that I will need to do a crossover/transfer with the analog going into the digital camera which goes into the firewire port. So do i just need to get an analog camera to do this? And will any analog camera work that has out video/audio(yellow/white plugs)?

Well if the Tapes are Hi8 you will need a Hi8 Camcorder to play them back and if the Tapes are VHS-C then you will need a VHS-C Camcorder to play them Back ect...Also your Digital Camcorder has to support DV Passthrough and have analogue Inputs so you can connect the Analogue Camcorder to the Digital Camcorder....

You will also Probably need some Video Capture software that Captured from DV Camcorders Like "WinDV" or "DVIO" and you will need encodeing software Like TMPGEnc to encode your Captured files to Mpeg-2/DVD Format and you will need DVD authoring Software Like "DVDLab Pro" to Put the Encoded Files on to DVD with Menu"s and Chapters.....
