hi fellows, im a newbie and would appreciate if someone knows wheter i need to use swap discs for playing backup cds when i have a modchip installed for the new ps2 slimline? and i also want to know whether is true that swapping brings problems with the ps2 laser.
i believe that some older mod chips need boot discs in order to work, which would kinda defeat the object of a mod chip in my opinion...
ive heard rumours that the ps2 laser is put under more stress playing backups becuase of the difference in burning of ps2 discs and normal pc written discs, so it has to work harder in order to read the game
a way to combat this is too get a hdd and boot your games off that, no lasers involved!
hdd = hard disc drive, like found in the pc your using now
you can put a hdd into a ps2, with a newtwork adapter, and an os (either hd loader (free) or hd advance), then copy games onto the hdd and play them off of there, instead of dvd discs
You will know if your damaging your laser,
If your using cheap media, the ps2 is making noises,(whining),
Have trouble reading the backup,
Then your laser is struggling to read your media,
Use better media and you shouldnt have this problem,
I have been using backups for a year now and i havent had any
problems, (I use verbatim +r and fujifilm (made in japan)+r.)
My games run smooth and silent I havent had any problems.
