I bought WinDVR 3 because PCTV Vision, which came with my PCTV USB2 device really wasn't up to scratch. Bad image, awful recording, lots of resources it uses. So I thought I'd buy WinDVR after hearing it worked great with my device.

But after installing it, unlike Vision, it needs you to manually tell the program what audio to use. I picked PCTV USB2 2821 Audio from the list but then I need to pick the Source too - I have a choice between

Line-in
Microphone
CD Player
Telephoneline

But, this is a USB2 device, there's no line in or whatever, and whichever option I pick, I don't seem to get any sound? Please help!

The First thing you should Try is right click your Volume Icon in your Taskbar and go to "Adjust Audio Properties" and then go to the "Audio" tab and were it says "Sound Recording" and "Default Device" Look to see if your "PCTV USB2 2821 Audio" is Listed in the List and if it is then Select it....
Now go into WinDVR 3.0 and select your Audio device and see if you can Hear any sound .....

If that doesn"t work then Try takeing the audio from your VCR and Pluging it directly into the "Line In" on your Sound Card in your PC Totally Bypassing the PCTV device all together, and then select your Sound Card from the Device List and then select "Line In" as the Source(You will also have to go into your Windows settings and Un-Do any changes you made)....

This way will Work for sure because you can Capture audio useing your Sound Card in WinDVR without a Capture device...
You might need a Little adapter to go from the RCA/Composite Audio cables from your VCR"s audio output to the "3.5mm Mini Stereo" Input on your Sound Card...
The adapter will look like this and only cost a Couple of Bucks:

I have not heard anything good at all about the "Pinnacle PCTV USB 2.0" ,I actually just did a Quick search on the Net and all I found were Pissed off Poeple who were very unhappy with there Purchase...

The problem with Non-Hardware Based USB 2.0 Capture devices is that they do not have enough Bandwidth to Transfer Uncompressed Video and Audio Data to your PC at a Consistent speed so what Happens is you will get Problems Like Dropped Frames and Low quality Video and your Captured File can have a Jumpy sort of Effect...

I was reading a review on the PCTV USB 2.0 and it said that when Pinnacle was developeing this Device they Had to use Mono for the audio because there wasn"t enough Bandwidth for them to use Stereo...

Good Luck
