hi all need advice on wether to use an internal card or an external digital tv/ video input looking for a balance between quality and cost plus ease of use as i'm not very computer literate have a pentium 4 512mb and 160gb something like that the numbers are right anyway.

how much money do you have? I always recommend the ADVC-300...but its about 400-500 bucks.

not that dedicated to spend that much. have seen some externals in shop for about $260 and they are a type of set top box for digital tv that have inputs for the video. the salesman tells me that it will give good quality because of the digital tv capabilities but unsure if this is jusy sales bs.

to sd51-take a look at hp.com and check the specs on a hp dc5000 movie writer this is a dvd writer with a built in capture card that connect to the vcr,the dvd writer connect to the computer by a usb connection.the dc5000 comes with all required program and cables.the program that comes with this writer will compress a three hour vhs movie to fit on one disk.cost 199.00 at hp.
