Does anybody know of any websites which has a tutorial for making a Dreamcast boot disc for PS2?

I know it can be done because I've made a NeoCD boot disc for PS2.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

To my knowledge, there's only ONE working Dreamcast emulator, and it's only for the PC. If you check out http://www.chanka.org, you'll see the state that the emulator for the Dreamcast and Naomi arcade boards are in, which is not really playable.

Anyways, your CD that you use to boot neo geo games (which probably include some SNK fighting games, Metal Slug, and maybe a few old shooters) is an emulator, on top of that, it's an emulator made to work specifically with the PS2.

There's no such emulator for PS2 as of now, and we're a long way from seeing one.

Anyways, here's what I can tell you. If you want to play Dreamcast games that you've downloaded, or bought ridiculously cheap from the used section at the video game store, then what you should do is just BUY a used Dreamcast. They go for about $20 USD, and they'll play backups that you download from the internet (or games you own LEGITIMATELY) without any need for a modchip whatsoever.

That fact is why I bought a Dreamcast a year and a half ago. I downloaded Ikaruga (a 17MB download, with NOTHING ripped), burned it at home, and booted it on my Dreamcast I bought on the same day.

All in all, it cost me about $25, including the memory card, the jump pack, and tax.

I scored a black sports edition for $25 at a flea market. So like others said just get a dreamcast if you want to play Dreamcast games. It's the easy system out there to play a backup on. As far as consoles go N64 is the latest one that I've seen emulated well on a decent PC running at 2ghz.

Not Even Worth Getting One...There are only a few good games in DC...in my opinion...and it is freakin' cheap to buy one

The DC isn't THAT bad.
It's definitely worth getting one if you can still get one.

The truth of the matter is that in the few years that the Sega Dreamcast was an active console, there were quite an insane amount of groundbreaking titles. I'd dare say at least twice as many big hits per year than for Sony or Nintendo.

There are about 800 titles for the DC that were released during the big pirating free-for-all before it's death. And out of those, even if you were being ultra-picky, there are at least 30 truly great games for that system.

I know, I personally have somewhere in the ballpark of 70 games for my DC, all of them I either bought second hand or downloaded, and it was all for a system I paid $30 for.

Oh, did I mention the fact that for downloaded DC games, they've already been hacked to work with the DC from the second you burn them. Not only that, most DC games are under 400MB downloads.

Try to tell me that $30 isn't worth a FREE library of some really great games. Hell, people paid more for Metal Gear Solid 3 or for Gran Turismo 4 individually than for an entire system, and an entire library of games at your disposal.

Of course, my DC can't replace all the great games I own on my PS2 (in fact, after I "played out" my DC, that's when and why I bought a PSTwo in the first place) but it certainly gives you a great run for your money.

I mean, people always say how easy it is to pirate on a PS2, in fact, it's one of the reasons people buy one, but it's even easier on a DC. Simply buy a DC, hook it up to your TV, download and burn an image which you can easily obtain over the internet (Ikaruga, the full game, with nothing ripped was only a 17MB download), and pop it into your DC, BAM instant games, most of which have never seen the light of day outside of the system.

i agree with remy. DC was not that bad. and the mass amount of games you have available to you is pretty decent. of course there were a bunch of crap games, but for every 5 stupid/crap games, there was always definitely one that you will want to play. i bought my baby sister one for her b-day last year, and gave her my game library of about 20-30 DC games. DC cost me 15bux at my local EB and the stack of games cost me about 15 for the media to burn them on. the only thing now is to get a copy of "sonic adventure 2". i lost mine a couple years back.

Sonic Adventure 2 has become somewhat of a collector's item for the DC. Along with the original Sonic Adventure, and Soul Calibur, the prices of these games went insane.

They can be found for between $17-$35 in most game stores. My advice? Just download the game. Sega's not going to lose any money over it, so the only moral issue is the fact that some retailer isn't going to let you buy the game USED for some ridiculous inflated price. Yeah, they sell the DCs cheap, but make up for it by selling the better games for really high prices (because most people buying them now, have absolutely no idea how rampant the DC pirating scene was, or how much leftover availability there is now on P2P networks)

Yeah, downloading games IS illegal. And even though the Sega company will never see another dime for an original that you buy for a Dreamcast, downloading them is STILL illegal.

You see, game companies like Sega (especially the Japanese division), Nintendo, and Atari (to name some) are incredibly against using any prior software for any uses other than the original intentions. That means, the original discs/carts, on the original systems, with no modifications whatsoever.

People have actually tried, for good causes, to ask game companies to some limited rights in using/modifying old software that will never make the original company a single dime. However, game companies RARELY budge. In fact, if I remember right, the last time a game company released anything other than an SDK, it was 3DRealms, they released the full source code for Duke Nukem 3D. I love games that have SDKs released with them, that's what makes gaming communities, just look at Half-Life. If the guys at Valve never released any mod capabilities, there'd be no Counter-Strike, and Counter-Strike set off quite a bomb in competitive play as well as with game-mods in general.

Anyways, yeah, I know I'm not supposed to condone piracy, but for the Dreamcast, a lot of people are starting to see ISOs as an acceptable form, either for emulation or for home use.

And even though some will disagree with me on the piracy of Dreamcast games, realize this : American Dreamcast support died close to three years ago. Most people now consider DC roms in the same category as MAME roms.

For everyone who uses MAME, most of you never give a second thought to the rights of owning the originals for the roms you have. Because seriously, who shells out $100+ per old PCB just so they can be entitled to the rights to emulate it. In fact, most of the more popular games are only workable by reverse engineering some parts of the original boards' functionality, and that in itself is more illegal than owning a game dump.

So, yes, the DC ISOs are quite illegal to download. In fact, so far as I know, no game company has ever said, "Everyone, go ahead and give our games a second life, emulate them for your personal use, for free" In fact, a few companies came together and scrapped up the IDSA, which protects dinosaur age games from being able to be downloaded legally. Seriously, try looking for any of the older Super Mario Bros. games, you can't find them on the bigger sites anymore due to the threat of being sued.

Anyways, I'll get to what I had to say : It's illegal, but for quite a LOT of games, it's the best way to go for that system.

Let me give you the BEST example I know. If you wanted to play Ikaruga on the Dreamcast (by the way, the original DC arcade port of it is far superior to the Gamecube version, as NOTHING is cut out of it) you'd have to buy the game used or new for a REALLY high price off of eBay. Then you'd have to either illegally modify your original Dreamcast, or buy a Japanese Dreamcast, just to play it. OR...... you could get on a P2P network, and download the FULL game in about 10 minutes, seeing as the entire game is only 17MB when RAR'd, and then burn it yourself, and have it autoboot on ANY Dreamcast without it even having to be modified.

this must be a joke, people expect so much out of the poor ps2, how long do you expect it to live the laser will burn out or it will overheat, i think hes getting a little overexcited in the emulation zone.
