5v on mod chip??? HELP

Does anyone know what the 5v place is for on the mod chip (magic 3.1) and does the ground HAVE to be in the exact sot that diagrams show?? My mod was put in by modchipworld and it seems that the 5v and the ground is in the wrong spot.The chip plays cdrs fine with no probs at all, but the dvd-r's have never worked. Could this be my problem? The ground goes to the long gold strip just below the chip(on the side of the board). Some of the wires go across the top of the bigger black sqaures without any tape between them.If any of this seems like it would be my problem on getting my dvd backups to work let me know please..thanx
