I was wondering, out of all the versions of PS2 that have been released from the v1 all the way up to the new slim v12's, which version have most people had the best success with for modchipping and durability?
I am intrested in getting a modded PS2 after some rather bad dissapointments dealing with Xbox, but i've read repeated reports of people with unmodified slim PS2's frying and burning out....
Given the cost of modchips, and the general lack of any good warrenty on modded systems....it sorta leaves me guessing and wondering which is the best route to take. Just by installing the chip the factory/store warrenty is long gone. New lasers cost $100 or more for the PS2.
Most places charge a obviously inflated fee for modchipping a system, and worse still, refuse to stand by their work and provide any quality support should problems happen.
It's almost enough to make someone want to flee back to using a PSone. The graphics aren't as nice, but at least they can be modded reliably and have a good track record for lasting quite a long time. Repair parts for them are cheap, and there are like 10x as many Playstation/PSone games as there are PS2 games out.
I know Sony is known for using inferior quality lasers in their products, but really...It seems like the drive that was there for them...back during the Playstation/N64 wars, has faded. Sony obviously stomped Nintendo in that era of gaming. Yet it seems like the wind has been knocked out of their sails or something...the PS2 has great games, but they aren't pumping them out like candy like they did on on the Playstation/PSone, and the systems seem plagued with glitches, laser frying and worse.
