Can you convert AVI to DVD?

I've dowloaded some avi format files and I'd like to make them into a DVD to watch on my 25" tv instead of my 15" monitior. Is this possible? If so, is there any freeware or demo version of the software I can download?

25" telly ? lol. ok what you need is virtual dub 1.4
toad the avi file up and then click on file/save wav
this will save just the sound to your movie
when done close it down and load tmpg up
put the video file in where it goes, and change the audio to the one you just created with virtual dub
click next then other
change the bitrate to 2 pass vbr
this gives you greater control over the size of the end result
click ok
then next and next again
give it your destinate and click ok
go make yourself a coffe and go to be, be ready in da morning, let us know how you get on
