DVR transferring????

I was wondering if it's possible to rip DVR data onto your computer. I noticed there is a usb port on the back of my dvr and would really like to transfer some things to my computer hard drive because i don't like erasing things i might want to see again. Anyone ever done this??

If your DVR is the Motorolla Box from Comcast, i was told by various technicians that the USB ports are disabled and there is not was to copy off.

I just purchased a Plextor TV-402U which I am hopeful can accomplish this if by nothing else through the RCA cables.
