I use a program called PocketDivx Encoder. Its supposed to be used to convert video into small Divc or Xvid files to put on a pda, but it can also be used to convert at higher resolutions.
Err, PocketDivX encoder encodes with XviD or libavcodec, not DivX and it outputs AVI or ogm, not .divx.
To create a divx file I think at the moment you would have to use fuse to remux. VirtualDub takes mpg input, assuming it is mpeg1 and can output to a divx AVI which you can then remux to .divx with fuse, adding subtitles, etc..
I downloaded pocketdivx and it seems to work, the only problem is that the audio is out of sync with the picture (not a lot but still bothersome.) Do you get this problem? And if you know how to fix this let me know. I also have virtual dubb but i dont know how to use it to encode to divx, can some one tell me how?

Rather VirtualDubMod.. even mpeg-2 to divx. Video -> full processing mode. Compression.. -> DivX 5.2.1. Configure -> adjust bitrate, perf and mode. Streams -> stream list -> right-click available stream -> full processing mode. Right-click streams again -> compression -> select some audio codec. Then file -> save as.. AVI.

u have to make sure u select the correct audio stream. if it doesnt ask for one and its still out of sync, you can try the Correct Audio/Video synchro. ive never used it since ive never had that problem, but it may help.
