Major Problems getting the ps2 hdd functioning..

first - my setup:
V10 ps2
Duo 2 SE modchip
Seagate ST380011A 80G / Maxtor 80G
Network adaptor
HD Loader / HD Advance

When I hooked up my new Seagate drive it detects the drive fine and formats, says 'Formatting Hard Drive, Please Wait..'

The thing is, after an hour I got sick of waiting, rebooted the thing, and just got the HD Advance page with no menus etc.

I reformatted the drive on a pc (got it back to the stage of formatting again on the ps2), except this time left it running overnight (ie 7 hours), still won't format.

I then tried HD Loader, same deal.

So I thought maybe it was the hdd (incompatible?), so I swapped it over with the 80G Maxtor from my pc, except exactly the same thing happens!

- detects the drive
- starts formatting the drive
- then nothing!

there is some short bursts of hdd (sounding) activity,but that's it!

Am very much on the verge of giving up.. any help would be appreciated as I can't find any reference to any similar problems. (and yes, the jumper is in the right spot)

Is there any way of actually formatting the ps2 hdd via a pc (I have a caddy), or formatting with the caddy and the USB mod? (would prefer to use the internal hdd though since I bought the adaptor + it's faster)

i formatted my hdd via pc, but then when you load up hd advance it formats it again for you, i presume to put the HD advance info and data on the HDD

yes, the only way I could try again with formatting was to put a windows format on it.

Just tried formating with Winhiip, same thing, locks up on the 'boot screen' of HD Loader.

Actually looking in Winhiip the drive seems to be formatted ok...?

Could the modchip be interfering?

havn't seen anyone else mention any problems with conflicting mod chips..?

beginning to think there's a hardware problem either with the network adaptor or the ps2 itself (does the network adaptor need any software installed before it'll recognise the hdd?)

No software needed apart from hda/hdl to format it, it may well be the network adaptor if it's doing it with 2 diffrent hdd's, can you try a diffrent adaptor?

ok! went to a friends place and;
- hooked my adaptor and his hdd up in his machine - worked fine
- hooked his adaptor and my hdd in my machine - worked fine
- tried my disk in his machine - worked fine
- went back to my original setup, with his disk - worked fine

so I'm home with a working copy of HD Loader (for some reason the 3 or 4 versions I tried previously were conflicting with my setup), except now I get the "Disc inserted is not a valid Playstation 2 disc" message whenever I try and load DVD games.. Am loading a CDR game at the moment which seemed fine. I am chipped, the games run fine off disk, but HD Loader won't recognise them unless CDR (it seems)...
