I have an .ISO file. Or an .IMG file that I changed the extension to .ISO. What do I do next to make it a playable DVD?

is this an ISO of a DVD? ISO and IMG are just image files, so they can be anything. You could try to burn with DVD Decrypter, if it's bigger than 4.3GB or so, you could use DVD Shrink to compress and then decrypter to burn, that is if it's an image of a DVD.

Yes, it is an iso of an DVD. Actually, at first, it was an .rar (.r00, .r01, etc) file that WinRAR extracted to an .img file. Then I renamed it to an .iso file. Then, using DVDShrink, I attempted to compress then use WinRAR to extract it to VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. But DVDShrink errored "Invalid DVD navigation structure". So I am stuck.

hmmmm......
maybe use ISOBuster to break apart the ISO so we can find out what files are actually in there??

If you mean "break apart the iso" as in what it was before I used WinRAR it was a folder with 30 WinRAR archive files (*.r00 - r29) and 64 additional files that are named in the same format (*.r30 - r93) but the Type is called "r## file". Also a *.sfv, *.nfo, and an *.rar file. This comes to a total of 97 files. If you meant something else by "break apart the iso" then, once I get ISOBuster installed, how do I do that?

Click File, Open Image File, find your ISO, then you should see a bunch of files on the right side of the screen. Select all of them, then right click and choose Extract Objects. Then choose a place to save your files.

winrar will extract whatever was in the rar file(s), ISOBuster extracts what's in the ISO. Kinda the same concept.
I wasn't aware that WinRAR could extract ISOs. Is this true??

Yeah. Once WinRAR extracted the .img file (which I changed the extension to .iso) I double-clicked on the iso file in the WinRAR window and voila! AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS was in the window. I used ISOBuster and there they are again. Same files, same sizes. I did not see any problems using ISOBuster to extract the files so I wonder why I am having so many problems trying to burn them? I tried again and Nero said "DVD-Video files Reallocation failed". Does PAL have anything to do with it? I thought that only meant they are in a different screen size.

Quote: I tried again and Nero said "DVD-Video files Reallocation failed".
I get this error all the time and I burn anyway and it always comes out ok. I think this error appears because there are some files with nothing it them or something?? I'd suggest don't worry about it unless you burn a copy that doesn't work.

Will do. If possible, I will try with a DVD+RW instead because this is costing many DVD+R's.

This DVD will just not burn correctly no matter what program I use (Nero, DVDShrink, RecordNow). Using Nero and a DVD+RW (so as not to use up DVD+R's), the DVD video and audio is playing like it is being "fast-forwarded". Maybe I need to get lessons on how to burn a DVD. Do you have a good source where I can learn the process and see what I am doing wrong?

What speed are you burning at? Try to keep it 4x or lower if possible. What kind of media are you using? Taiyo Yuden makes the best, for store-bought media I suggest Verbatim (Super AZO dye) and AVOID MEMOREX LIKE IT WAS THE PLAGUE!!

I used Verbatim DVD+RW and +R and it burns at either 4x or 2.4x and I choose the slowest . How can you tell if you are getting the "super azo dye" from Verbatim? I never heard of "Taiyo Yuden". How can you get it..online?

Taiyo Yuden can be purchased online, although some store-bought media is actually made by TY. If you do decide to purchase online, make sure you do so from a reputable site like supermediastore.com, rima.com, or meritline.com. Avoid shop4tech.com or any other sites that sell the same media for way cheaper than the rest of the sites because there is a lot of fake stuff out there. You should be alright if you buy from any of the above mentioned sites. As far as the Super AZO dye, I just bought a pack of them a few days ago and it said right on the box "Made with Super AZO dye". I'm sure they will let you know, as this seems to be a selling point.
You can download a proggy called DVD Identifier and it will tell you the media ID code of the discs. The Verbatim I got were MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Company) and those are supposedly pretty good. They also have a button in the program that will go to an online database to tell you compatibility ratings and reviews of your different media codes. Pretty useful stuff if you ask me.

if the disc comes up blank you should be able to burn onto it. Or are you saying after you burn it?

Swapping file extensions between ISO and IMG is NOT recommended! ISO and IMG are 2 different file formats/ file structuers. whilst you may not notice the difference, your dvd burner will. Thus those irrating errors and burn failures. Also, if you are referring to a dvdr IMG changed to ISO, your standalone dvd player might refuse to recognize the disc cause it doesnt understand the file structure.
so leave the file extension to what it came as. you can always extract the contents of an IMG with ISObuster, MagicISO, WinRAR if you cant burn the IMG itself. But again, DO NOT change between IMG and ISO.
