i was wondering if the duo 2 se chip found on modchipstore.com is a good chip
for 20 bucks, it seems kind of cheapy

Hi
I have a machine fitted with a duo2se chip and it gives no problems at all. It mighten have the features of the more expensive chips such as a flashable bios, but if you want a chip that will play your backups without any hassle this is it. Any dual layer games can be patched first with the toxic patcher to work with this chip.

when installing the chip
i found two sets of instructions gap and nogap bios for a v4 ps2
do i have to look at the motherboard in order to identify whether it is a gap or nogap bios
i am using modchipstore.com's instructions as a reference

The only way of telling is to open it up, but once open it will be pretty obvious if its gap or no gap bios.

Its like everything else there is a knack to it, but its not very easy for the ps2 or any other console for that matter. Check out this site on basic soldering http://www.epemag.wimborne.co.uk/solderfaq.htm
To build up a half decent soldering kit would cost you £30-£40, practise first on some old boards before even thinking about attempting your ps2
