I have a SONY DVD RW DRU-530A and can burn either dvd-'s or dvd+'s.. Any input on which ones are better please let me know.. I use Nero and have burned so far on dvd+'s (Ridata 4x) and have had no problems.. but want more knowledge on the subject..

-R and +R are two different disk writing strategies. They were competing standards similar to the VHS-BetaMax dustup. However, instead of one surviving and the other disappearing, both standards have been accepted by the drive manufacturers, While there are drives that only use +R or -R, nearly all drives manufactured and sold today support both standards. From a practical standpoint, there is little difference between them. Some people find that their standalone players sometimes prefer one to the other, just as they prefer some media manufacturers over others.

My two cents :~)

DVD-R:
Benefits: Better DVD playback compatiblity within home DVD players.
Drawbacks: Older technology and less money behind the format means that they come out with faster media and burner technology slower. You will frequently see DVD burners that will support (for instance) 16X DVD+R and only 8X DVD-R.

DVD+R:
Benefits: Faster speeds, more inovations like Double Layer discs (8.5 GB)
Drawbacks: Will not play is some home DVD players. If you know your home DVD player will play DVD+Rs then there is no reason to not use them.
