i called a local modding shop (they install mod chips..etc) and the owner told me that dvd+r are bad for the lens of the slim model ps2. i dont know if this goes for the bulky ps2, but he says it will burn the lens...

anyone ever hear of or experience this?

trial and error if it doesn't then get -r if it does then go with +r.

i doubt they have a clue what they are talking about.
I use -R for games and +R for movies and they both work fine in my slim PSTwo with DMS4 Pro chip
Although i have the summone laser fix in mine, you should get a laser fix installed.
But i know people who have been using the +R for a while with no problems.
Cheap media with cheap ink is what will kill your laser.

I use +r with no problems.
Always fujifilm or verbatim though.
Just as said MANY times cheap media is BAD for your ps2.
Stick with these below and you wont have any problems.

MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = )<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = )<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Possunt Quia Posse Videntur.

my slim is loving fuji +rs... no skipping. good loading. cant complain. actually I use to use ritek g05 -r then switched to fuji +r made in japan cause its listed as first class media and noticed a slight improvment in loading...

wont use anything else now.

Nah, DVD+Rs are perfectly fine for PSTwos, I should know.
Some PSTwos can't actually read DVD-Rs, mine doesn't, and a few other people here on the forums share my problems!

Like everyone else said, what kills your laser is crappy media. If your game takes forever to load movies and audio, it's probably also murdering your laser.

Just stick with what Jizmak said, he's the man in the know.
