I have ripped star wars episode I and II using smartripper and dvd decrypter and converted to an avi using neodivx both turned out perfect but when an alein talks it doesnt show the translation like the dvd does is there any way to fix that any help would be appriciated
I as you did, had the same problem in which the forced stream subtitles weren't being displayed when I ripped the Episodes 1&2 DVD's. I have now found a way that get's it working perfectly and it's due to the remapping of the streams.
USE:
DVD Shrink v3.2.015
STEP 1:
SETTINGS:
Preferences - DVD9 Selected, Tick bottom two check boxes
Preview - Enable Video & Audio, Stereo, System Default
Output Files - Having EVERYTHING ticked (Bottom Especially)
Steam Selections - All Languages, AC3 or LPCM, Disable All Except Forced
File I/O - Nothing ticked
STEP 2:
All subtitles should be deselected apart from the English Forced stream which is number '7' (Australian). You can leave all audio streams for this stage.
STEP 3:
Rip movie into a folder on your hard drive so you have a full backup in perfect 100%. Once completed close any open discs.
STEP 4:
In settings, change the DVD output from DVD9 back to DVD5
STEP 5:
Instead of open disc, open files and point to the directory you just ripped the perfect backup to. This will process the files again and when complete, you will notice that the forced subtitle stream is by itself and now in position '1' instead of '7'.
STEP 6:
From here I went to RE-AUTHOR and from the available titles I set my DVD to house Title 10 (THX Intro) followed by Title 1 (Main Movie). So drag titles 10 and then 1 across to the left hand side which is going to be your new DVD.
STEP 7:
In this step I remove the Director's Comments audio stream from Title 1 in order to get a little more quality. You do this from the Compression Settings tab in the right hand window.
STEP 8:
Right click on Title 10 and set your default streams. On Title 10 you will have one option which is 5.1 sound. It is not required to set a default audio stream for this title as it only houses the one audio stream. For Title 1 (Main Movie) set your subtitles to point to stream 1 (English Forced) and set your audio to either 5.1 or 2ch Stereo.
STEP 9:
Once satisfied with your title sequence then 'Back-Up' that 'Re-Authored' DVD to a folder on your computer. (This will mean you have two back-ups, one of the original, and this new one you have created.) You can now delete the original backup if you need to free up space, but yeah just burn your newly authored DVD through your burning software.
I hope this has helped because I too was rattled and had no idea what to do. I actually came here to find help myself and when I saw your post and no answers I took it apon myself to figure it out. When it worked I thought I may aswell share the solution. I hope this helps you. Make sure you let me know how it all went!!
Are you not getting the options of English Forced streams when you rip the original DVD to your computer?? With the STREAM SELECTIONS settings having 'Disable All Subpicture Except Menus and Forced' ticked, when you open the original DVD, the ONLY subtitle streams you should see are the forced english streams.
I was using Retail Australian R4 discs and this worked perfectly. If you can detail a bit more information as to where you are not getting the options of forced streams, I will do my best to help you out a little more!!
