I used dvd shrink and normally burn with 1 click dvd copy.
I am new to all of this and thus chose that program and having been pleased with it. I tried Nero that came with my dual layer external BenQ 162I and had to get rid of INCD which wreak havoc for me, even to get rid of it and I simply have the Express on my notebook, however do not use it as I prefer 1 click dvd copy.

At the advice of BenQ's tech's I have been using R+ Maxell, Sony, TDK, Imation or BenQ's own 4.75 discs.
All have been fine. I burn on the fly with the external burner.
I should say the results have been great on my toshiba standalone player, a very cheap Malata door crasher special player that my daugher uses and my brother's home theatre unit. So I am pleased.

Now that I used Shrink last night I have the Backup on my hard drive, it is a Music DVD and now I am trying to figure out how to use 1 Click dvd copy with the file on my hard drive.
I do have a dvd drive on my notebook ,however I have always been using my External BenQ as both my source and destination with 1 click dvd copy.

I was using dvd 43 free for decrypting and of recent date it started to act up with 1 click dvd copy and so I opted for "any dvd."

I have a couple of questions, how do I burn the Music dvd that is on my hard drive that I did last night using 1 click dvd copy. (I am so new to all of this I don't know how to access that file on my hard drive and get it to my program 1 Click) I don't know if I am explaining myself well enough here.

When I have burned in the past with BenQ, on the fly I simply have been making an exact copy and so the options that 1 Click gives is source and destination and so that was straight forward for me.
It gave me the choice of my Toshiba notebook drive or my External drive for either source or destination. I always used my BenQ external and prefer to do it that way.

"Any Dvd", I have questions about too. It is the version 5.2.2.1, when I hover my cursor over the icon in the task bar when I have a disc to backup in the BenQ it indicates "ON" 1 "OFF" 0 and Empty 2.
I don't understand this jargon and whether the program is doing its job or not.

Previously when I used the program "dvd 43 free" which I just gave the "heave ho" to as it simply started to not work with 1 Click dvd copy of recent date.
It used to have the yellow smile face in the task bar and then when I inserted the disc into my external BenQ and it was doing its job the red devil ears and face would appear and then convert to a Green smile face when the program was giving the "thumbs up" that it was decrypting; however that suddenly stopped and i was throwing out copies as the decryption was not working.
My OS is xp,40 gigs, 512 RAM, intel pentium 4 toshiba notebook, external storage 160 gigs Western Digital.

I sincerely hope there is someone who can give me a little guidance here, I hope that I can use my 1 click dvd copy with dvd shrink and my "any dvd" program, Or is it that I now have to download decrypter??And this would specifically be for the long dvd's that I wish to back up???? I try to keep my programs to a minimum and need user friendly ones. However, once one does reading as I did in one post at this forum (which was very good with easy to understand replies); I see that information in this forum is put very straight forward and being that i am a Noob, that is what I need.

I now have to go back and look at my settings in DVD Shrink as I noted in that one post the difference between "speed" and "quality".
I go for the Quality, what is the default set at?
Next I will have to locate the size option so that I don't go too close to the edge.
One last question, what is the maximum size on a dvd shrink, as I have a Rollingstones dvd that I want to backup and it is 2hrs 20mins.
Are there other settings that I have to look at that are not too complicated for a Noob, as I don't want to mess around until I have done more reading and ask more intelligent questions.
The reason I went to "any dvd" is because I burn my exact copy dvd's on the fly and I understood that with Decrypter there was an added step.
I should say that I was very interested in the comments that were made about a setting for "extra sharp" for special effects; however I imagine if the source disk is poor then obviously the copy will be to. I reference this as the bulk of my backups are Music dvd's and in many cases the lighting on stage is not what it should be and so I assume that nothing can improve this???
Looking forward to comments,

Respectful regards,

Appa,
Welcome to the forum. I will try and answer you questions and if I forget one please re-post the question again as you post is rather long. You can not burn a DVD on the fly. You might think you can but the program has to compress a DVD-9 to DVD-5 and so it needs to put the data on the HD. I do not use 1 click DVD copy as why waste the money when you can get essentially the same thing for free in using Shrink and DVDDecrypter. I also have Any DVD but use DVDDecrypter 99% of the time. Below are the instructions for using DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD and Shrink to compress the file and then use DVDDecrypter to burn the compilation. Out of the blank media you mentioned try and stay w/ the Maxell, Sony and maybe the TDK as they are the better brands. You might D/L DVDinfoPro(free) as it can do a CRC test on the burned media and it can also identify the real manuf of the blank media for you. You can Google for DVDinfoPro

Using DVDDecrypter
1. Insert Movie

2. When Windows asks if you want to play movie hit cancel

3. Open DVDDecrypter

4. At top is MODE- make sure FILE has a check mark by it

5. At the bottom is a DVD > HD- Click this and the program will decrypt the movie

Now we will use Shrink to compress and DVDDecrypter to burn

1. Make a folder on your Desktop> call it Rip Movies

2. Open DVD Shrink> click Open Disc(find the files that DVDDecrypter did on the HD)> Shrink does quick analysis

3. Movie Only Option

a. Go to Re-author and Click

b. Under Main movie slide the main movie to the left under DVD Structure

c. You can now remove the languages you do not want and the audio you do not want.

4. Go to Edit and click Preferences. Now you will see a Blue Box that says -" DVD-5(4.7 g.b.). Now Change that to Custom and to the right of that change the # to 4300. This will not now let you burn to the outer rim.

5. Look under File I/O and make sure" Enable Burning with Nero" does not have a check mark in the box.

6. Click Select Backup Target > click" Iso Image file and burn with DVDDecrypter"

7. Select Target Image File> Browse>desktop> Rip Movie ( file you made on desktop)

8. click O.K

9. It will now do analysis and then encode the movie and automatically burn with DVDDecrypter

If you need the instructions to just use AnyDVD+ Shrink and then use DVDDecrypter to burn let me know as it is similar to the above but you skip a step or 2.

Hope this helps

Thankyou for the reply, yes if you have knowledge regarding Any DVD and DVD Shrink I would appreciate it as I am aware of the demise of Decrypter and did not install it earlier, thus I will be using Any DVD.
Trial use has been Good!!

Appa ,
If you have AnyDVD and you want to use Shrink to compress and Nero to burn the guide is below. If you do not have Nero you can still D/L DVDDecrypter and do it so DVDDecrypter burns th HD. You can get it at this site. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_...

Using Shrink and Nero:

Set Up Guide for DVD Shrink 3.2 using Nero

1.Make a folder on the Desktop and name it Rip Movies

2.Put DVD Movie in your DVD-Rom or DVD-Writer

3.When Windows asks if you want to play movie hit cancel

4.Open DVD Shrink

Setup Shrink

1.Edit>preferences ( you can look at it if you want to but it is already setup)

2.File I/O> Burn Setting -check enable burning w/ Nero
Click O.K.

3.Open Disc- click it ( Shrink will do quick analysis )

Copy Movie Only Method

1.At top click on Re-Author

2.Main Movie ? Drag title to the left side

1.Compression settings

a.Audio- uncheck the audio you do not want ( I usually leave 5.1 )

b.Subpicture- uncheck any you do not want ( I usually uncheck all)

c.Video- Where it says Automatic Ratio click to Custom Ratio ( at the top you will see a Green Bar. Right below where you clicked on Custom Ratio is a bar. Move that bar to the left and you will see the Green Bar at the top move left and it will show some gray color. Make sure only 1/8? to ¼? of gray color shows (this keeps you from burning to the outer edge of the disk))

2.Backup>select target device ( make sure this is your burner )

3.Select Folder for temp files ( make sure this is the folder on the desktop you created Rip Movies)

4. You will see a Section at the top called Quality Options. Click on it and you will see 2 boxes :

a. Backup Quality settings- If checked you will now do a 2 pass encode

b. Compress Quality w/ high quality adaptive error compensation- you can now customize the sharpness of your picture

c. At the bottom right you will see ? What do these options mean: Click on that and PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE GOING TO KEEP THOSE BOXES CHECKED.

What this does is give you now a Quality backup that look close to CCE encoding. Using this method and check the box if it is a extremely long movie like Lord of the Rings. Be forwarned that checking these boxes will increase you encoding time by about 1 hour or more. If you are using a marginal computer system I would not use this method and if you have a laptop remember that heat build up inside the computer will force Windows to shut the computer off if you have heat problems. The encoding process will use 99-100% of your CPU ad this causes a lot of Heat inside the computer.

Now Click O.K.

Now DVD Shrink does Deep Analysis and then encodes the movie and then automatically burns the DVD using Nero

Thankyou for the detailed reply. Yes, i will be using Nero along with DVD Shrink and Any DVD which I have purchased.

My library of Live Music Concert DVD's is what I am backing up. I don't want to scratch or damage any of them, especially when one has company over they like to look at the contents listed and i would rather that they look at what I list on the jewel case and not risk the possibility of the dvd slipping out of the original case.
Many of the dvd's I have had to hunt around for as I am a "baby boomer" and so in some cases I have accidentally stumbles across a favorite concert of many years past and I collected videos for many shows and now am starting a dvd collection.
There is not much on tv some evenings and it is nice to watch a music dvd, as I frequented as many concerts in my life as possible. I guess I am an aging boomer "concert freak"!!!
I appreciate the comments.
I notice in one particular DVD the spot lights in the beginning of the show and during some portions is very poor; and I realize that can't be fixed. I will simply do the best that I can.

I am just getting started here so I don't want to do anything too dramatic with settings, not having the experience.
I indeed thankyou for walking through the process and giving your time to a Noob!!

Cheers
