I am currently following the guide for converting DVD to DivX at
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2divx_anamorphic.cfm

My problem is that no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall the DivX Pro 5.x codec, I do not get a screen similar to the one shown in the guide and I do not get any of those options that I am required to check and modify. Could I get some help please?

That guide (though still workable) is somewhat stale,
for example they recommend downsampling WAVs from 48kHz tp 44.1kHz, also 160kbs CBR MP3 audio...
These days, with GordianKnot

things are much easier :^)
I used DivX for years, but it costs $$ - I recommend XviD
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filte...
Which is free!
GordianKnot contains NanDub, which will work with both VBR MP3 and AC3 audio.
If AC3 2.0 audio is available, you can simply use that audio directly in the AVI.
If AC3 5.1 is to be used, your backup must pretty well be spread over 2 CDs (1400MB).
These XviD AVIs will playback beautifully once AC3Filter is installed

It is really better to let GKnot frameserve automatically to VDubMod via AVS, using advanced error-correction capability and including an integrated bitrate calculator, than trying to do it yourself manually.
I have less A/V synch problems now, using GKnot with VBR MP3, than I used to in 'the old days' using CBR MP3 ;^)

Definatly old. I would definatly not recommend using VFAPI to frameserve as it involves converting to RGB24.

DivX I believe have a util called bigfix, that amoung other things checks your VIDC enteries which is probably where the problem lies. If you have a blank VIDC entry, then re-installing a codec won't help. Well I guess except in the case of Koepi's XviD builds, as they include a util for checking.
