Hi There,

I hope I have placed this in the correct forum.

My old stereo hi-fi has basically died !! I am now thinking of just "beefing up" my computer as I already have an apple i-pod and I find I-tunes easy to use and a good program and think I would prefer to use this than get a new hi-fi.

I only currently have very very cheap speakers worth about £10 attached to the computer so they are pretty quiet when on full !!

I was wondering what anyone can recommend I get. I have some fairly good speakers from my old hi-fi but I suppose I cant use these in my computer as probably wrong connectivity ?? What speakers do you reccomend ?? I want something with a decent sound but am not thinking of converting my house into a nightclub quite yet !!!

Also should I get an amp or anything ??

Also can I connect my TV to my comuter for a surround sound ??

Please explain as much as possible as Im not an expert !!

Cheers

That's a lot of questions for one thread. You could research this stuff for months.

Quick answer is yes you can do these things.

For mainly music, you can get a receiver, use your current hi-fi speakers and hook your computer and tv audio out up to it.

Or you can get a decent computer speaker system for under $100. A little harder to hook your tv audio out up to.

Or you can get a home theater receiver, and hook everything up to it.

The amp is built in to the receiver or computer speakers so you shouldn't need an additional amp.

I hope this gets you started. There are many websites dedicated to what type of equipment to use and how to set up home theater systems, and what software to use. Just do some google searches.

I have been researching recently and have been recommended the Logitech 5500's 5.1 system.

I am just not sure whether it is better to get this or to go with a more "Hi-Fi" related company i.e. Sony and get a 5.1 seaker and receiver. I have a small budget and would like to spend approx GBP200 all in. I know I can certainly get the Logitech system for this price but would value others opinions.

I have also been sugested to go with a Klipsch 2.1 system http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Klipsch.html as although it is less speakers they are better quality and I could just start with these and then maybe gradually add an amp / other speakers ??

Cheers
