Hi folks,
Ive only recently just started getting into the PS2 mod scene, and was looking for a way to get a PS2 ELF file onto my PS2's memory card, or cheap old hard drive. I found most explanations quite confusing as they assume a lot of previous knowledge. So hopefully this will help people new to the PS2 scene like you and me! :o)
Key-:
* ELF Files = PS2 version of a windows executable.
* Swap Magic Discs = Popular way of playing PS2 backups.
I recently got the swap magic 3.6 dvd & cd, and it has the feature to run any elf file. Heres how to do it.
Heres what you need-:
A) Swap magic discs (Im using version 3.6 PAL)
b) A usb storage device (Pen/Stick/Watch etc)
c) Your ELF file
1) Hook your usb device up to your pc (mines one of those USB watches , with memory in). Im sure you could use any usb pen/stick. Your pc should detect it as a removable drive. If not, you may have to install drivers for your computer that came with your usb device.
2) Create a folder on your usb drive/device called SWAPMAGIC. This has to be in the root of the folder structure, and not nested anywhere else.
3) Take your previously downloaded PS2 ELF file, and rename it SWAPMAGIC.ELF
4) Place your renamed file into your SWAPMAGIC folder on your USB device.
5) Ok now over to your playstation!...Plug in your usb device into one of the PS2's USB ports.
6) Switch on your PS2 and place your swapmagic Disc in the machine
7) Wait while the disc loads up....The disc should understand that you have a usb device plugged in, and look for the SWAPMAGIC.ELF file on it. Once found it will execute the ELF file!
Notes -:
For my ELF file i used the Program Called Launch ELF, this allows you to run other ELF files, copy, move, rename etc. You can also copy to your PS2 hard drive (If you have/need one).
You can also copy to & from the memory card/s, So in other words its a very handy tool.
So why not use Launch ELF as your main file to run as detailed above, and fill up your USB device with lots of other ELF files/programs. That way you can copy them to your memory card or PS2 Hard drive.
Hope this helps some people.
Stupid Disc! lol :o)
