It's about buying the ones that aren't made by sony. Im thinking about buying one and I would just like to know whats the procedure to installing and getting it to work. I mean, I know how to install but I was wondering if any software is needed. I know the HDLoader is for putting games on the hdd but is it needed to make the hdd work with the ps2 or is it just plug and play. I really dont want to put games on it I just want to put the socom 2 maps on it and basicaly use it as a memory card, so my question is, will I still need the HDLoader ?

you can't use any old harddrive to put the socom 2 maps on it and use it as a memory card, you need the sony one.
