Hey, just rented GTA:SA for xbox today, and when i was trying to copy it on to my modded xbox, it doesnt work. I have to disable the modchip and play it directly through the actual game dvd itself. Is there any way that can solve it? Thanks.

by the way, this is the 2nd game that doesnt work after being copied to my harddrive, the 1st being leisure suit larry. all the other games, include the newest Jade Empire or Splinter Cell Chaos Theory all worked perfectly.

alot of people downloading the game are having lots of problems two. (i got it workin though :)
does the game try to load then go right back to your dashboard?
there is a patch for the game floatin around on the net, it worked for some people. (only people on PAL xbox's though i think)
all i did was set the region to auto in my evox and it worked. strange i know but it worked.
so play with the region settings and try the patch.

Works fine on my NTSC box...anyways try this
heres the fix posted on nforce by IND.
Apparently this is working for some
open your evox.ini and edit the following values:
TSR_Type =1
GameRegion = 1
also add:
DebugTSR = No
this will give you real NTSC mode and the game should work.

Ok, I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it.
I made the changes to my evox.ini as posted above. After restarting, it still went back to the evox menu when I tried to play the game.(didn't work)
I then went in and changed the settings through evox (not via FTP). I set everything to this...
VIDEO STANDARD = NTSC (North America)
GAME REGION = North America (NTSC)
TSR = NORMAL
then I hit "Save and Exit" and restarted the XBox...then it worked!
!NOTE! As I said before, I made these changes AAFTER modifying my evox.ini through FTP. I don't know if this makes any difference, but I thought I would let you know exactly how I got it working.

On a side note, now that I've got the game working, my evox.ini shows the game region being 2!
So if you still can't get GTA: San Andreas to work, try different game regions, you may get lucky.

By making the recommended changes to my settings, will it affect the gameplay of other games? As much as I like GTA:SA I don't wanna mess up other games.

I've checked my other 86 games, and none of them have any problems...all of them are US versions (NTSC) except Unreal Championship 2, which is PAL...and it worked fine to.
As for the Avalaunch, I would check the settings, you can setup Avalaunch just like Evox.
Make sure the video is NTSC and the same with the default game region.

well try setting it up properly and it might work for ya. (<- u only need that when game is backed up on xbox, if not just patch game before u burn it.)

I'm trying to create a single source for this problem, in case someone has a fix for the issue, other than just fiddling with the Region.
See:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/200941
I see however, you are having a problem with Avalaunch. What version are you running?

For some of the PAL users the Evo X ini fix will not work.. you have to download the dafault.xbe file which is floating around on the net.. this will allow the game to boot up on a PAL machine..
If you change the settings in the ini file as described above it will work if you have a NTSC tv.. if you don't then only the other xbe file will work..
Cheers

The original poster said he had to disable his mod chip to play the retail version. How do you do this I want to play the game legally but I have a modded xbox and it wont let me load the retail version from the DVD so any technique to bypass the chip would be ace. Sam
