Alright here's the deal, I installed an X3 in my xbox quite a while ago and it worked fine from day 1. This lasted for a few months until xmas time when I was moving it around a lot. It started to do the tripple boot to the service screen when I tried to chip boot. The xbox would still work perfectly when I booted it w/o the chip, and since I actually do own all my own games I didn't have the desire to fix it while in the dorms. Well now summer has come, and I broke it open yesterday to see if a point had come off or whatnot. I resoldered the 1.6 alt power point as the joint seemed to be a bit weak, and I also resoldered one of the pins that seemed to be moving (and obviously that's not good). Other than that, it seems to check out fine. I then tried to boot into chip mode and nothing happened chip wise. The external X3 switch light didn't turn blue (or red)... didn't even go on. It just booted like a normal stock xbox.

Under closer inspection it looks like the d0 wire might be pinched enough to have broken the wire but left the insulation, making the wire seem like it was fine. Does this sound like it's just acting as if the d0 connnection was broken? My only question is why doesn't the external switch (the one that shows the status by lighting up different colors and also has the dip switches to sellect memory bank) light up? It seems like the chip isn't getting power. IIRC the d0 point just enables the xbox to boot from chip instead of the M$ bios...

Okay forget the post. I cut the d0 wire at where the break was and resoldered it to the board and now everything is working okay (knock on wood).

Nice, but does the switch light work? If not then there is a bad connection on your 3.3v's
