Can i boot ps2 without disk? (broken drive)

I have broken disk reader. so I need to boot the ps2 without disk on memory card or with hdd. I can
borrow my friends ps2 to export any data to my memory card, but i dont know what to insert there. I have 120Gb hdd and net adapter on machine.

Is it possible to boot ps2 without any disk or should I buy new ps2 with working dvd-drive?
If it is possible to boot ps2 without any disk tell me what to do and what programs i need (and how to install them).

Help me please.

The only way you can run programs off the memory card or hd without a disc is if you have a good modchip, but you would still need to be able to read a disc to flash the chip.
