I burned on a CD a movie in .avi format. Before it would play fine, but now I'm having many problems with it. When you first open it, the first seconds are working fine, until you go into a minute of the movie. The picture stops, and the audio begins repeating the same thing until it stops all together. Then the video is shaky, skipping and pausing many parts, while there is no audio. At times I would stop the file and begin it in the middle of the movie to see if it would work that way, but no luck. The video shows good, but the audio is out of place. The audio from a scene before is playing instead. I used both AVI Codec and G-Spot to see which codecs I need to install, but come up with nothing really...

[AVI Codec:] http://img293.echo.cx/img293/4949/avicodec3bn.png
[GSpot:] http://img293.echo.cx/img293/5431/gspot4iq.png

Can anyone help?

Also as a side-question: Is there a way to see all the codecs you've got on your computer? If so, how would I know which ones are not needed and should take off?

Hi...
Okay, first off, I don't think you should delete any codecs just yet. Have you re-installed any software or had to re-install your OS since you last played the file? If so, you probably just need to update your codecs again. At the top of the thread is a link to get the latest codecs.

Try that first. Make sure you also get the latest version of ffdshow...If that doesn't work:

Then reinstall your codecs.
I'd make a backup before deleting anything though, just in case.
Are you sure the disc is okay? is it dirty, scratched? How old is it?
Is your system resources overloaded?

The first thread link you gave me directs me to uninstall all my codecs then reinstall others. Should I do that? Because otherwise I don't know what codecs I'm suppose to update exactly.. I'm confused.

I don't know how to do a backup. The CD is okay, I don't quite remember how old it is, sorry. And what is system resources?

Yikes! You should learn a little more about your PC before editing anything first. Take no offense at that... it just good sense.

Grab the codecs that were listed on the link, and install them. That should work fine.

Your system resources are like available manpower. If you computer is too busy running programs in the background, it can cause it to hang, or glitch the video as you play it back. If you are using Windows, you should have a few icons of programs running, in the lower right corner by the clock (on standard setup). This is just an example, but if you have more than 9 or 10 Icons, I'd say your system resources are probably under heavy load. You'll need more specific help for that.
In the meantime, just get the latest codecs and install them. You can even go here for this pack:
http://www.doom9.org/
Get the 1.9 codec pack. I've never had a problem with this.
Moderators: If I've posted this link illegally, please correct me. Thanks. I did not see a rule against this...
