i have a very frustrating problem on my hands that im not sure how to fix. like many others, i got interested in dvd ripping because i recently purchased a sony psp. i have successfully ripped two dvds (the matrix reloaded and the matrix revolutions) using a combination of dvd decrypter to get the movie off of the dvd into the .vob format and psp video 9 to convert the .vob files into .mp4 (mpeg-4) files which are usable on the psp. but after ripping the original matrix and watching through the first 10 minutes of it i realized something wasnt right. the audio track was not following the video track any longer! it was at least 5 seconds off at first, but increased as the movie went on. i also have the same problem with the movie the goonies, which i attempted to rip today.

after looking at the .mp4 info in quicktime, i found that both movies that weren't working had a variable bitrate. then i just looked at the matrix reloaded and revolutions, whose audio tracks both match the video, and found that they also have a variable bitrate, so that could not be the problem.

im really not sure what the problem is. any and all help is appreciated.

edit: sorry if this is the wrong forum, i didn't see the Sony PSP discussion forum at the bottom, but i think it is also relevant to this section.

hmmm...that's strange. DVD Decrypter has never given me this problem before. You're not multitasking while ripping are you?? That's a big no-no. Also, can you tell us your computer specs like CPU speed, how much RAM, etc.?

hmm .. heh i might have been multitasking but anyway my specs are:

Dell Dimension 8200
Intel Pentium 4
1.90 GHz
256 MB of RAM

i'll rip and convert tonight without multitasking and see the results.

...I figured it out...
Just get PocketDIVX (v.12)
Use that after DVD Decrypter
It will allow you to choose subtitle channel as well as main audio channel. This is also helpful for foreign language films.
Then just convert the created AVI with PSP Video 9. ;)
