It's only the forum update/support that has gone.

If you have the program already, just continue to use it.........until movies come out that it can't do.......

I don't think DVD Shrink will be updated anymore (maybe wrong), but due to the bad news about DVD Decrypter, I think it will be a matter of time before more 'rippers' will be removed...............

However, there will always be someone out there to do some wizardry...........

According to the author of Shrink, the July 04 version was the last. He's now working for Nero. So, Decrypter has joined Shrink with the loss of support. It will continue to be useful for a while. DVD43 works, it hasn't been updated as quickly or as often as Decrypter. AnyDVD isn't free, but it works well.

Its too bad that the better free programs are slowing being axed. The best program left is AnyDVD which has to be purchased. However with lifetime updates included it well worth the price.

i still havent found anything that DVD43 cant handle...

my main use for DVD Decrypter was for those hard to read disks. where others failed dvdd succeeded most times.

when DVD43 stops working i will get AnyDVD but how good is a lifetime of updates when the s/w may well be illegal in a year?

i really dont know how a company can force a s/w author to quit just cos it bypasses their protections.

i remember back in the vhs duplication days when you could buy a macrovision de-scrambler. surely they would be illegal these days? and anything that hacks your cable tv? and clone cd etc etc....

bah @ big US companies...

DVD43 works OK, but they were 6 months behind on the present updates. As long as they keep the updates flowing its another good alternative.

Digital copyright laws. VHS isn't digital, so what applied to that system has little to do with what is going on in the courts now.

A digital copy can be copied over and over with no loss of quality. A vhs recording gets worse with each copy and the first generation copy is nowhere close to the quality of a DVD. It's obvious why the movie industry is so worried about digital copying as opposed to the poorer quality vhs.
