I used a Plextor ConvertX (PX-AV100U) to do a direct-to-disc transfer of a VHS to DVD+R on my laptop with the program InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2, but I can't add chapters afterward. I don't want to finalize the session until I get chapters, since I already have some DVD+Rs where the video is just ONE long clip and I hate it. The site below:

http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=377

says that WinDVD Creator "lacks chapter management." I found that out the hard way. I'm not even sure if it adds those automatic every-three-minute chapters. Anyway, all I want is to add chapters after the direct transfer.

I did a bunch of searches on Google but nothing about what I'm dealing with specifically. The only solution I can think of is to finalize the disc, rip it again, and author it from there.

So is there any program where I can add chapters to the current unclosed disc that I have? I know know of BadCopy and IsoBuster, but those are for recovery, not authoring.

If I'm screwed with my unclosed disc, then is there any program that I can use in the future that offers direct-to-disc and chapters management?

Please help,

Hi..
There's no way to save it to the HD before burning? There are authoring software available (check the software section) that can edit in chapters, but if it's already on disc, I seem to remember using Ulead Movie factory to edit-on-disc. But it could only do it on an open DVD+R /RW.

Doing direct to disc with any of the Convertx units, you can't create chapters or menus. It has to be saved to HD first and this is where that second drive comes in real handy. Once saved on drive you then run the mpeg thru an authoring program. In your case you could use the OEM software but on a laptop....hmmmmm, it would be pushing it. Also, the PX AV100U is a software dependant convertor where the 402 units are hardware- much easier on the computer. But if you've got a kick-ass laptop then give it try.

Try this- cap a small 30 min. clip from something and save to HD and author it to see how it works. Also, look into using another authoring program that does not re-encode the entire mpeg file during the authoring stage. Dvd Lab is one such program.
