Kodak has announced to retire from the CD-R business. This is sad, since for years Kodak has has supplied us with the finest quality media. Luckily, many stores still have Kodaks available.

Kodak CD-R Ultima GOLD+SILVER 74min 12x (25-spindle)

ATIP: 97m 27s 45f
Disc Manufacturer: Kodak Japan Ltd.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 650.83MB (74m 05s 01f / LBA: 333226)

Excellent and very durable disc. Kodak's INFOGUARD coating on the top surface is very durable. In Finland these should be available in any shop that orders their stock from GNT.

I bought a 10-CDR pack (made in Mexico). It is rated at 12x but the disks do not give a single C1 error no matter I burnt it at 16x or 32x (Lite-On 32123S, XSOX). There is one strange thing, however: the top surface of the disks burnt at 32x got very weak. I can rub it off even with my finger tip (_not_ fingernails). Those burnt at 16x does not have this problem.

Is the power of 32x laser too strong?

The ATIP of the disks are as follows:

ATIP: 97m 27s 46f
Disc Manufacturer: Kodak Japan Ltd.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

According to Kodak's FAQ, These disks should support 24x burning.

I think it should be a bad batch because one of the disks have cracks in the inner ring.
