Hey bro,
I've had the saame prob some 3 days ago... posts messages and solutions in the internet has never given me an idea to solve this case (since not just one case causes the problem, IT DID NOT HELP).
I downloaded new ver of "firmware" to update my DVDROM(this was causing it). And finally, i got it working after i the updated.;-)
I WAS CONVERTING DVD->VCD via INTERVIDEO DVDCOPY.

I shrink a couple more dvds but DVD Shrink had another problem with a dvd saying it was to large and might have an error during the burning process. So again it is having trouble shrinking dvds. Why and what is causing this. It seems like the settings are changing or something. yet I can still back up dvds and burn dvds that have been previously shrunk.
=======================================
The only time I have seen DVD Shrink send a message like that was when there was not enough Free Space on the Hard Drive, or the Destination Partition was not large enough to hold the "Temp" folder during the burning process. If neither of these things applies, then I would suggest that you Keep Using (DVD Decrypter) to write the "Files" to disk and THEN use DVD Shrink for the rest of the work. That will eliminate any problems that Shrink might be having reading your DVD drive. DVD Decrypter has a Much Better Read/Decrypt/Write routine than DVD Shrink.

Hi, I was also having the same problem yesterday, i could encode a movie in about 20/30 mins and all of a sudden it was takin 1-2 hrs, this forum has beem very helpful, as my secondary IDE channel was saying device 0 ..auto detection,..DMA if available,...current transfere mode,..ultra DMA mode 2
and my device 1 auto detection,.. DMA if available,..transfere mode PIO mode,. So then i deleted my secondary IDE and re-booted, and now it has detected Ultra DMA mode 2 in my device 1, and all is working well again, thank you very much. At first i thought it was to do with updating DVD Decrypter, But it seems i was wrong.

my primary ide says in device 1 - dma if available - dma ultra 5, device 2 - dma if available - pio mode
this wont change i have deleted the primary ide and it still says the same thing, my secondary ide both are on dma ultra 2
does anyone know anything i can do as i should not take a minimun of 7 hrs to encode, which ishappening at the moment with mixed results
thank in advance

I think basically it's something to do with the IDE/Atapi drivers. I've got all the DMA options set to auto (even tried manually setting to 5). I've got an ASrock K7S8X motherboard (SiS chipset), windowsXP Pro SP1, and I cannot get a DVD to burn. Tried with NEC2510 and PioneerA04. It's not the burners or Media, or Vobs or Iso's because they all work on my Macintosh with no coasters (using Toast)
I can burn a CD-R but not a DVD. I don't get any errors or crashes using Nero. Everything writes ok, until you actually play back the Movie. It's all pixellated and stuff.
I tried to update to SP2 but it didn't help. I even sent the NEC2510 back to the supplier who tested it as ok. There is something seriously wrong if people are having so many problems that cannot be fixed. We wouldn't tolerate this kind of failure in a Boeing Jet or a new car would we???

back again, i have just upgraded to a 2800xp, 1 gb ddr ram, and it now takes 2.5 hrs!!!!
what the problem was, that i didnt have an 80pin ide cable going into my harddrive, only a forty pin and that brought it down to about 4 hrs, but i then upgraded and got some good times.
As for the pixel thing, are u sure u have the right codec? use a program called AVIcodec to check, it will say supported if u have.

I'm running 2600, with 256mb ram. I can rip a movie in 30 mins with dvdshrink! Then I copy it over to the Mac and burn it at 2x speed in about 30mins. (just wish the lousy PC would burn it instead...)
