Ahhhh, Intel Application Accelerator it is!

Go to Start > All Programs.

Find IAA and start it. All your drives and their respective transfer modes should be under the Device Information :)

Yes Neph I know we've crossed this Intel accelerator path before but on some systems it does remove the advanced settings tab.
I took the wrong side of that debate at some point in the past I take it? I wouldn't argue that it doesn't at this point in time :)

I installed an NEC DVD-RW/CD-RW drive this evening in place of the DVD-ROM drive I had. I also have a LG CD-RW drive. The CD-RW drive shows this: Secondary Slave, UDMA Mode Support=No Support, Default transfer mode=DMA MW2, Current transfer mode=DMA MW2, UDMA Control Register=Ultra DMA Mode Disabled.
The new DVD-RW drive shows: Secondary Master, UDMA Mode Support=0-1-2, Default transfer mode=UDMA2, Current transfer mode=UDMA2, UDMA Control Register=Ultra DMA mode enabled.
Does this info help?

Why yes it does! Both your drives seem to be in DMA.

If the application of thermal paste stopped the freezing/reboot problem it was because there wasn't enough there to begin with or some sort deficiency with the initial install of the HSF, not that Nero puts any undue stress on your system :)

If your drives are all setup properly and you're overheating when burning with Nero then I'd find the problem before trying video copression of anykind. I'm going with Neph on this one, you need to check your Heatsink and fan Installation to insure that it's seated properly. You might want to even look at buying a quality retail unit.

Hi Sopho: I've been trying to find a good retail fan and heatsink combo to replace the small one that came wiht this system, but haven't been able to find one yet. I did get one that was supposedly for a Socket 370, but it didn't fit. I'm considering getting a 60mm to 80mm adapter and attach a standard fan to blow directly onto the proc. Would that be a good idea? I've heard that Compaqs don't have the capability to show proc. temp. as in a diagnostics, is that true? I greatly appreciate your help!
