i'm having this same problem.

v4 ps2, burned on ritek dvd-r 4x, swap magic 3 > dvd loader > toc (tried FFX and MGS2) > star ocean 3 and it always freezes at the battle simulator.

BLAH. my v4 won't read a RW, any other thoughts?

edit: tried a 2x burn and still the same. instead of Basic Operation in the simulator menu, i went directly to start, and that DID load, but after the battle it just froze again like normal. meh.

ive also been having the same problem with the battles taking FOREVER to load...whats the issue with this...isnt there something to fix the battles?

i use a v4 ps2 burn with tdk dvd+r and memorex dvd-r.....swap magic 2 dvd.. and i use alcohol 120% to rip and burn

the weird thing is that everything else in the games works PERFECTLY except for battles...

any help would be GREATLY appreciated =)

I have the same issue! I am using boot magic and the fliptop. I am using awesome dvd-r's and they load this game perfectly too! Beautifull intro!! I can get as far as past the intro an setting up the beginning settings (sound, video, difficulty, vibration, etc) an once you get past that screen its just black :(
