Ok sorry for the late notice but it has come to my attention that the starter pack is PAL ONLY. Reason being that when opened in ps2 save builder it says "BEDATA" if your an NTSC person, you'll have to change that to "BADATA" and if your jap/asia then it something else, like "BIDATA" or something... not quite sure though.. If someone knows exactly how that works I can change my article and upload another 2 starter packs for the other regions!

I know I'm good with this now... but that would be awesome if you could post multiple regions, Alex. It will probably help others out a ton. I know I struggled and wasted quite a few hours trying to figure this stuff out! he he he (not just the starter pack, btw ... lotsa stuff)
Everything's working great off my HDD (using HDAdv from the pack I downloaded), so now I'm off to figure out how to back up my CD/DVDs so that they will work with AR Max.
Oh, btw .. I bought AR Max now, and will take back the Max Drive since I already had my own USB pen drive. Is this the right move to make????

Yeh I'll put up some more starter packs.. I'll edit the current one so that Ps2menu is already on there, but I'll leave a copy of it as it is cause it is a good lil' cogswap loader exploit.

speaking of cogswap .... do you HAVE TO use a slide card method for this in order to play backup discs (CD or DVD)??? or is there another way to play backup burns??? I'm using the Action Replay MAX memory card exploit and also have a HDD.
I have searched and search to find the one TRUE answer ... can burned discs be used with the Action Replay MAX memory card (no-mod) exploit??????
Thanks again!

you do need to use either a slide card or flip top to boot backups, but if you have a hdd you could just back up your discs to that, then you don't need to use a slide card

Quote: you do need to use either a slide card or flip top to boot backups
Thanks ... i've been looking for a straight answer for days!
Next question that I can't seem to find a straight answer about ... how can I transfer backups to/from PS2/PC? I'm not just looking for the programs to see each other (I have FlashFTP & execFTPS working and they see each other), but the actual method of how to go about moving files so that both the PC and PS2 can read/use them. The reason I ask is especially this: I'm looking to burn my backups to disc (to save HD space) so that at a later date I can install them to the PS2 hard drive if/when I wanna play them. My understanding it there is no way to get an unmodded PS2 to read the backups in HDloader/HDadvance, so transfering from the PC is the only way. Make sense? In other words, I need to know:
1) what file format to burn backups to CD/DVD -- I'm guessing ISO read/write with DVD decrypter
2) how to later read the burn onto the PC, and use that to transfer to the PS2 HDD so that the PS2 can play it from the HDD
3) also would be nice (not as important) to know how to recover an image from the PS2 HDD to transfer to PC and burn it the same way as if it were a straight copy of my originals
Thanks in advance!!!

I don't use the hd at all so I can't give you an answer to this one, but if you ask at the forum in my sig' you'll most likely get an answer

Okay, so I ordered AR Max Evo Edition with the Max drive and it should be here in a couple of days.
My question is: Is using the exploit/PSX original/slide card the only way to load a DVD backup using AR Max?
I've read that .elf files can be put onto the Max Drive and started using the AR Max Evo disc. So is there an .elf file available that will simply boot a DVD backup?
Or is the PSX disc bootup the easiest way possible?

look a few posts up ... you do need to do the slide card for backup DVDs .... however, you don't with a HDD installed (can FTP your backup ISOs from PC to PS2).

Thanks for the reply.
I gathered I needed a slide card, but is a PSX original all I need after that if I have the exploit on my memory card? I don't have a HDD in my PS2, so storing games on it isn't really an option.
So I'd load up a PSX game, then use the swap method to put in a PS2 DVD backup? Or would I have to load up a PSX game, then DVDLoader or whatever and then load my backup?
The reason I ask is, if I can just put .elf programs on my USB card/memory card, couldn't I just put DVDLoader or a program to boot DVD backups on the card, then start it using the AR Max Evo disc via media player(I read in the previous thread that activating programs this way was possible), then use that to load my backup?
While I'm asking, is there a beginner's guide/tutorial for the AR Max exploit method online anywhere? A basic step-by-step guide would be really helpful.
Thanks.

I read your guide Alex and found it really helpful, thanks.
One question though: Which program do I need to include in the exploit if all I'm going to be doing is booting a DVD backup? Is it DVDLoader?
