I have a LITE-ON DVD+RW Burner and i have an option of burning with any software. I also have a swap magic 2.0 and 3.0. I have a v7 ps2. I wanna know if i could make backups of my ps2 games with a dvd+r disc, without any problems at all. I'll appreciate your response.

Thank you

Is there special setting for when you use dvdecryptor?

My backsup to about 98% then gives me an i/o error.

I assumed the default setting were okay. They seem to work for regular dvd movies.

Anyway, my buffer never gets to raise more than 2% the whole time and my speeds vary even though I request it to be a 1x.

Any insight you can offer will be invaluable.

thanks

1: Do a search of the forums for that answer.

2: I use the Swap Magic Flip Top method (work's great for me), so I don't know which chip is the best.

3: The -R or +R has makes no difference in the speed of your burns. The burning speed is determined by the disks you buy and how fast your burner burns. If you try to burn your games on the fastest speed possible, you will have a nice selection of coasters to set your drinks on. As far as burning games goes, the slower your burn the better copy you will have.

Here's the deal with burning PS2 games at 1x opposed to 4x for movies (I think):

Movies, once started, generally run straight through the disc without jumping around. Even if you flip through tracks it's nothing compared to PS2 games. Games jump around a LOT! Especially free-roaming games like GTASA. On a movie, if there's a tiny error (which occurs when burning at higher speeds sometimes), if it's small enough it's no big deal. Video games, your PS2 laser might get lost if there's no data or corrupted data in certain spots. Burn at 1x if possible, it's never failed me. Burning at 2x usually turns out ok, but I've had little skips in cut scenes and stuff like that, games freeze toward the end. Just be safe and spend the extra half hour to burn at 1x.

As far as -R's and +R's, neither is better than the other. They are different formats and different PS2's play different formats. Mine is a V4 PS2 and only plays -R's. Don't use RW's, they usually don't work. The media quality makes a HUGE difference, especially with burning problems toward the end of the disc (90%, then failure). The DISCS don't damage the laser (if it's good media), it's the MOD CHIPS that damage the laser by increasing the voltage. It just wears it out prematurely, but I've had mine in for about a year and it's still running strong. Definitely worth the $30 I paid for it.

I hope this long post has helped at least one of you. To find out which version PS2 you have just type "PS2 version" into google. I use Ritek G04 -R media, gone through a few hundred between games and movies and have NO problems whatsoever.

Ok here are my 2 cents for the day, as I just managed to back up my beloved San Andreas.

On a Slim PS2, make sure you use DVD+Rs for backing it up. Used a DVD-R first and that didn't work so great, took forever to load and was full of errors (and yes I used a Ritek with G04 dye). However, it worked fine when I wrote it to a Datasafe 4x DVD+R (also uses Ritek dye, 02 i believe) at 2.4x with DVD Decrypter

That is what fixed it for me anyway. Good luck :)

Boobhead is a dirtbag, he really just knows nothing at all about any of this. He probably doesn't even have a functioning brain! How he got that 4X speed is the recommended speed is beyond me, THE SLOWER YOU BURN, THE BETTER, U IDIOT. [talking to Boobhead] If everyone else says their copies work better when burned at 1X, then why the hell would YOUR copy work better when burned at 4X?

Also, PS2 games that are on DVD's are all DVD-ROM disks, and the closest format to DVD-ROM actually is DVD-R. DVD-R is better than DVD+R for ps2 games, however, both formats work! For some reason, DVD+R works better for movies. I don't really know why this is, but its just how it is. I know for a fact that DVD-R's do work better, at least for me, and a lot of other people, because I've burned two copies of several games [the same disks] on DVD-R and DVD+R disks, with the same programs\burners\disk brand\type\etc, and the games burned to DVD-R worked a LOT better than the same exact games burned onto DVD+R disks!

Last thing to everyone: QUIT BITCHING! the forums are for HELPING people, so do us all a favor and shut up ,and dont talk if u cant help!

Hi Scoops,

I haven't had a lot of good experience with the bulqpak dvds, even recording off the tv with a stand alone DVD recorder they produce errors, so I have stopped using them.

The ones I use for PS2 backups are usually Datawrite DVD+Rs 4x or 8x but burning at the lowest speed possible. Verbatim work well too. Better to spend a little more on blank discs than ending up with a bunch of coasters or a burnt out laser

Using Infiniti 4x DVD+R (only thing I have spare) and i've made perfect backups of Sonic Mega Collection, and WWE Smackdown Vs Raw @ 2.4x. Tried to make a backup of GTA:SA and it seemed to work fine, started playing it to test and (for anyone who's played it) where you go into CJ's house to save.. saved the game, tried to leave the house again, and the DVD just keeps spinning until eventually it freezes. Using a PS2 slim together with Swap Magic 3.3, can anyone give me some advice? (apart from "use DVD-R" as I can't get hold of any for a while).

hi Munemitsu

i have found out that it is my mates computer that doesn't work and all the copies i have made are fine, except GTA SA and mine froze at that exact screen ( it goes black after they get in the car and the screen says SWEETS & KENDAL ) all i did to fix this was use a different disc(same type dvd-r) so try using dvd+r but a different make.
I can't remember whether i used DVD Decrypter or Nero but they should both work

Hope this helps
