I'm not up to speed with the G05 unless it's the 8X but you can't go wrong with RiData
OR Ritek G04's

I'm new and came to this site because of the errors I'm getting that have been talked about in this thread. Odd thing is that no one is talking about getting these errors during the "backup" phase prior to burning the copy like I have been.
I get the same errors you've been talking about, but this happens after I've inserted the original dvd, selected "open disc". The scan runs fine at this point...takes a couple minutes for most discs.
Then I get the normal folder lists, etc. After selecting what I want as far as folder and audio, etc. and choose "Backup!" two things might happen if it's a problem DVD: Either it pops an error immediately just like you've been talking about: I/0 error or "Cyclic Redundancy error". Everytime this has happened so far it has so corrupted Shrink that it will not shrink any other dvd's...even ones I've successfully done prior to this unless I completely uninstall it AND delete all of it from my registry and then re-install it. It's crazy.
I've burned dvd's so far on several types of good and even cheap ass generic blanks like Comp USA cheap-o's with no probs at all...as long as it's been a successful DVD to shrink. But the few so far that gave me these errors in the "backup" stage have hosed my whole system after this happens.
I've noticed the "running man" sequence as mentioned earlier, and I took the advice of making that folder a still image...still didn't work. I used "re-author" also to just shrink the title track of the DVD, but still get these errors at some percentage point into the "backup" portion...sometimes like 7% into it or sometimes even further into it and then it pops.
I've even used DVD Decryptor on these problems DVD's and even it will blow up at a certain point. Two DVD's that I can recall this happening with were the Close Encounters of the Third Kind special edition. What's odd w/ that one, is my friend was able to shrink it w/ out these errors, but I've still never had success. Another I can recall was that Jim Carey one...Spotless Mind or whatever. It had the running man at the beginning, but I still can't get it to burn...not because it's that great, but it's my test DVD and I have no success with anything I've tried from the suggestions I've read so far. My Matrix DVD which I own won't "backup" either...I tried it as a test DVD and even though the running man isn't on this DVD I still get I/O errors immediately when backing it up.
Sorry such a long write up, but does anyone have any suggestions? Was this in another thread that I haven't seen yet? I wrote this here because the errors are the same as yours except mine happen prior to the burning process.
Thanks to any who can throw down some ideas on this problem. Have a good one!

I tried your suggestions, Pete! I bought a much better quality DVD-R (Maxell) and they worked perfectly as you said earlier! Thanks a lot for the help, Pete!

Hey sumonostp,
Hey, we're glad you're burning up a storm :)
Consider this an invitation, stop on back, don't be a stranger, you're welcome even if you don't have problems to solve -
You can just "Hang out" and read some, improve your knowledge, help others if you can spot their problem, 3 heads are better than 2 (said the Cyclops to the Ogre) Or you could hang out in the "Safety Valve," a forum for gossiping about anything and everything under the sun :)
Check de place out, you just might find a little something that'll interest you -
Me ? Hey, I'll be over there, out from under that broiling hot sun, under the "Potted" Palm, right next to the water cooler. Just chewin' the fat and waiting for the next Newbie who needs a bit "O" help - Stop by and say "Howdy" -
I'll be lQQking forward to Sea'n you,
Cheers my friend,
Pete :P)

hey Scuba...
It's not a fancy system, but it's been doing well up until these last couple problems. It's a compaq Evo 310, 1.8G, 512Ram, 40G HD, and the burner is brand new: NEC 2510A from New Egg...burns anything and everything.
I've done several other DVD's since having these problems, but for some reason I can't figure out how to "crack" the issue with the few that won't burn. Maybe it's due to a defect in the original DVD??? They look spotless and clean, but w/ either Decryptor or Shrink I just have no luck.
Maybe I'll just rent another copy of those DVD's and see if they work...who knows, might get lucky.

moabtrail,
You still haven't told me what OS you're using - If it's XP, then I suggest that you go to msconfig, Startup then "Disable all", "apply", OK, and then OK to reboot. That will free up your PC's resources so that your encoding, and burning will go much easier with less "Problems".
As you're aware, your PC is a little short on process power and freeing up your start menu will give you what you're short on - :)
Trying another copy sounds like the right way to go -
Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving -
Pete

Hey guys, had the same problem for about a week, then I finally realized what to do. Media does make a difference, I've been using nothing but Verbatims, +/- depending on your burner, both are good. Anyways, on to the good stuff, I also downloaded the newest version of Decrypter and then got all of the I/O errors when burning. ISO read mode worked fine, just the ISO write mode was the pain in the ass. So I uninstalled Decrypter and used Limewire(or any other file sharing program) and downloaded an older version of Decrypter that gave me no trouble and are now using that with no problems in the last week or so. So I think it was just the new version of Decrypter(3.5.1.0) I believe that is giving all of us all of these headaches. Shrink/Decrypter now work for my PS2 and DVD movie backups flawlessly, spread the word, hope this helps.

It never, ever hurts to try something AND, if it works, stay with it -
Personally, I've been using the new versions without problems BUT, that's me - as I said, it doesn't hurt to try something -
Let us know how you make out -

Scubapete, it seems you are the definitely the one to talk to in this forum, so I would like to pose a question to you. I am just currently getting back into the Shrink work since my last computer would crash when it felt like it. I have just shrunk a dvd and have yet to install a burning program. If I want to use decryptor would I have to reshrink the copy to ISO or is there another way to do it (other than using Nero,I do have access to Nero but have not heard too many good things about it).
Thanks

Ferritt,
Since I'm an official ScubaPete Buddy, I'll throw my opinion out there for you to ponder.
There's another burning program that you can use to "auto burn" with Shrink called Copy to DVD. It's not free like DVD Decrypter, or as flashy or loaded with all the bells and whistles of the Nero Ultra suite with free trials monthly, but it is a very good, fast and stable burning program. It does have a 15 day trial.
If you want to use Decrypter to burn the files you have, then yes you will have to run them through shrink again and choose ISO as your output.
Nero isn't really a bad program. Just stay away from the InCD portion.

What he said (Lol)
When you "run" it through DVD Shrink you're not "Re-Shrinking" it - the size stays the same - you're just changing your files to an ISO image AND you're doing it for just this DVD. When you set Shrink to work with Decrypter it just goes through onceand comes out as an ISO instead of a VOB file.
As for CopyToDVD - it's a super burner either in ISO or File mode and fast as all "get out". For my money, it's the best burner out there.
Cheers,
Pete
(Heh heh - an "Official" ScubaPete "Buddy", I wonder if I'll live to regret it - Naaahh, it's alright :P)

LOL Thought you'd get a chuckle out of that one Pete.
I'll only refer to myself in this manner when I truly know what the heck I'm talking about. Which is rare so you shouldn't see it often. LOL
