I have a Epson R200 and it works great. Just don't get the dics wet after you print them.
I also have a Casio CW-50, which I use most of the time.
This is a thermal transfer printer and is very small. It costs about $80
They also have one that stands on edge and takes up even less space for about $130
If you are just looking a neat lables instead of printing a picture on your DVDs, it's the way to go

Thats Ok, the forum server acts up at times and double posts all by itself too. Does that thermal printer require any special discs or does it print on all discs?

You can get Thermal printing disks but they aren't required. Just try not to print on top of words/logos already on the disk. I usually get disks without the brand name on them... or the ones that have it written small, like TDK's. It prints the label on the top of the disk first. You then turn the disc to print a bottom label, if you want one. The ribbon will do about 40 single labels or 20 double ones. The ribbons come in 5 colors but you have to change the ribbon to change color. I just get black.
One thing, you should print the label BEFORE burning the disk. They say the printing can screw up the data.

No, you have to print the label before you burn the disk. It's a warning on the 1st page of the manual.
I've never tried printing one after it was recorded. I figure they know what they are talking about : )

Okay, for those who want to go the expensive route, the Epson 200 can be bought from Epson remanufactured with full warranty for $77.00.
Then you have to buy the ink every time it runs out.
Lightscribe - From what HP has said, NO new Hardware is required, it is a FIRMWARE update. It is the same Laser, not a different laser.
I can only assume that if your drive manufacturer has not licensed Lightscribe from HP, then you need to start complaining to your drive manufacturer.
From my understanding, Lightscribe is just a firmware revision that installs via flash to the drive. Since the laser can already read the DVD, then it should be able to READ the DVD/CD to see what has been burned or not when it aligns the text to the disc.
It uses the same laser, not a different laser like some places report, according to HP. It only requires Lightscribe media, which is currently being manufactured and is available from TDK and others, it's just the problem of finding dealers that have the media in stock.
If you must have color labels, then buy an Epson and inkjet prinatble media, but the label can be removed if it's printed, the only other method is to buy an expensive thermal printer, which will print a permanent label.
The cheapest and lowest cost solution, is to get Lightscribe frimware for your drive. Perhaps som ehackers who come up with the hacks to make them region free and burn even 1X certified media at 16X, can hack a firmware for you to allow your recorder to do Lightscribe, if your manufacturer decides to NOT release Lightscribe firmware.
