I recommend getting a 40gb+ HD, a copy of HDAdvance 2.0 and a network adapter and rip gamez to the HDD. I have this setup and everything works flawlessly. Soon, I will be upgrading to a 300gb HD.

And as far as the warranty goes, as long as you haven't modded the PS2, if you get like a 'disk read error' on your PS2, Sony will repair it free of charge! You just pay to ship it to them. I did this myself (I nearly took an ax to it) and they had my PS2 back in a lil more than 2 weeks.
