memorex uses dye from many different companies. Some are good, others are not so good.

Memorex are terrible brands for media from my personal experience. I remember I backed up some data on their CD's, as well as my Chrono Cross discs years ago. The data CD I used ONCE and never worked again. The Chrono Cross CD's worked for about 2 weeks (not even constant use), and then it stopped working as well. Chrono Cross didn't bother me as much since I could just make another backup with my originals, but a bunch of my data was lost! =\

As for EA stuff, I've never had a problem with burning their games without needing fixes.

I'm using a Pioneer DVR-108, DVD Decrypter, Ritek 8x DVD+R's (g03) and burning at 16x. I have yet to have an unsuccessul burn yet, and they all work perfect on my slim PS2. Maybe it's the unofficial firmware I used on my 108, or maybe it's the PS2 and modchip combo itself I got, but everything works fine for me at 16x. Don't know how you can stand waiting for 1x burns. :P
