they work fine for me at 8x

newbee,

90% of this and every other forum I'm a member of will tell you that faster burn speeds increase the chance of errors dramtically. The difference between 8x and 4x is about 5-10 minutes. Is it really worth that amt. of time to take a chance on a coaster? I can't count the people I have helped simply by lowering their burn speeds.

Not to mention different burners react differently with different software and media. So what may work for you may not work for many of the others. A good rule of thumb is to stick with 4x or less on movies and 1x on games.

GO VOLS !

Hiya Bigorange, were you replying back to neewbie's post? I always burn at 4x. Anywho...any response to my last post on page 1? I would really like to know what happened. Thanks!

I take it that dvd-rom must be your laptop. It must not like the dash format, try one of those +r's you picked up.I have a lot better luck playing the +.

I have not backed up twisted so I can't tell you if it is DVD-5 or DVD-9.I very rarely use DVD Decrypter.DVD Shrink and Nero do 95% of my backups. Those larger movies have to be compressed anyways so I stick with those 2 programs and AnyDVD.

My main pc may have a fried motherboard so I am on my backup 598 mhz celeron with 256 mbs ram and using my old khypermedia +8x burner,+ only burn. There is one standalone player in the bedroom that will not play any + backup disc off of this burner. It still won't play it using it in this pc."no disc inserted error". That player just can't read this particular burn for some reason. I can re-burn that k-h backup disc onto my benq on the fly and that bedroom player will play it perfect, same media, same 4x burnspeed, only difference was a re-rip with another burner. It even plays those maxell's -4x great from my benq.Just variations between lasers is probably the issue even though it was ticked to burn as dvd-rom in Nero.

No, this is my regular dvd-rom, I tried these discs on the laptop and it wouldn't read there either. My puter dvd rom is a hitachi GD-5000. I was not having any problems with the previous burns. My Lite-on rw plays these discs on my puter but not on the dvd-rom. I tried playing a disc I burned last week that did read in the dvd-rom and now they won't read either but it did read ok in the laptop. My laptop does not read the + format only -. I guess I am wondering why all of a sudden this is happening. Is my dvdrom going to hell on me? Is it something with dvd decrypter not ripping them properly or burning them???
