Quote: saugmon: Manufacturer I.D. CMC MAG.AE1
They should re-name this mfg ID code: CMC CRAP.AE1
Quite a few posts on issues with this id #.
Stick with japanese media. Fewer issues and better playability.Just look at the labels for Made In Japan.
Quote: movies27 : Once again I have to disagree I have burned a few hundred movies easily with maybe 3 or 4 coasters.Memorex is pretty impressive.
I asked:
Quote: What was the media code on those 5 year old Memorex dvd's and what speed were they back then?
Quote: movies27 : Well i dont worry about codes or anything..if it works i don't knock it. :)
I asked again:
Quote: Whether you worry or not about codes, they are still on the disks that you use, and a simple Nero Info Tool check will let us know what those codes are. Or download a free DVDInfoPro http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ and that will even do one better with an easy code check and disk surface check.
How about the speed rating of those Memorex disks that are 5 years old such as 4X, etc.?
@ wolfniggr
Lets see if movies27 puts up or finally shuts up about Memorex! I would like to see the results of what he states here on aD in several threads.
The bottom line should be that if you?re going to recommend Memorex media, something that most would disagree with, then OK, just back it up so that we all can learn from it. We?ll wait for those media codes and speed ratings of the disks he used, but I?m not quite sure we?re going to get it.
Even when movies27 stated that, ?Sony media is crap, Trust Me?, I immediately posted 2 DVDInfoPro scans of Sony DVD-R 8X disks, one burned at 8X and the other at 16X, showing media codes, etc., then another DVDInfoPro scan of a Sony DVD+R 8X disk burned at 12X, and of course all three were error free! I?d like to see those Memorex media codes from even a year ago and see if they?re error free. I know that the Memorex I used a year ago has errors already.

Hey Jim :)
Just two years ago it was around $3.00 a disk, or more and even the bargain basement brands like CompUSA on sale ran $1.00 a disk, PRINCO crap!

Hey jen, those japanese fuji +8x have the same code as the japanese sony +8x:Yuden000-t02
Those sony's will absolutely fly,16x is no problem on both my benq's.I'm about 50 miles from the nearest best buy.Maxell, sony, and tdk are about the only good brands offered in my area.
"Even when movies27 stated that, ?Sony media is crap, Trust Me?: I have used quite a bit of sony media, both +/-/1x-4x/4x/1x-8x. The 1x-8x is a heck of a lot better quality than the other speeds.I won't go back to those slower speed rated sony discs, too many problems on them.
Recommending Memorex: Big no-no. For local-easy to get-great quality media, maxell is what I recommend to newbs.Ty-go1/mxl-rg02/mxl-rg03/ritek-g04/and ricohjpn-01 are the only mfg codes I ran into. Those same codes are regardless if they are 3/5/10/15/25/50 packs. Notice that maxell does not use Cmc-mag! I would take any of those maxell manufacturers anyday.

Sorry I missed your post in between mine and Jim's... too much smoke coming from his um, cigarette covered it up! <g>
The main reason again is that we all know that it is impossible to have 5 year old media since the burners we could even buy for $500 really became available at the end of 2001 and the beginning of 2002 that could burn DVD-R or DVD+R media. I just wanted to stop all the bullcrap about media quality based on, again, bullcrap. Members are going to see this thread and most new members will believe whatever they read in here. I hate to see a bad decision made based on fiction rather then fact or at least a general consensus of opinion.
Edit for spelling error!

Thanks saugmon and scubabud (any relation to scubapete?) You have been very helpful! I think I will run to BestBuy and get some Fuji's on sale (making sure that they are from Japan first!) ;-)
I think Walmart has Verbatim's so I will probably get some of those too to have on hand. You guys are great!
I don't know much about all this, but one thing I know is that Memorex will not cross through my door again - what a waste of money! Fool me once and all... Thanks again for all the tips!
Take care, Jen

Hey jen, walmart has the 5 packs of the digital movie quality + and dash 4x verbatims with the nice jewel cases for just under $6 my way.
These + verbs code as Mcc-002.
These - verbs code as Mcc-01rg20.
These are both made in taiwan and are pretty good. I haven't had any issues with the Mcc-002's.Burned over 150 of them with just a coaster or 2-usually a hardware-mobo- issue, not media.

Perfect - heading to Walmart on Tuesday to pick up supplies for a trip to Sequoia on Thursday! I'll check out the verbatims then! Thanks saugmon!
As for scubabud - I guess all "scubas" on this board are just naturally helpful! ;-)
Happy burning to you all!
Love, Jen

I asked movies27 a couple weeks ago on what codes he had.
Must be some sort of "double secret" expiramental-hybrid-superduper dvd.Maybe they are the real/genuine : CMC.CRAPMAG.AE69.

Well, popped over to BestBuy and ended up out the door with a 25 spindle of Verbatim from Taiwan and a 25 spindle of the Fuji from Japan. I burned Napoleon Dynamite to a Verbatim DVD and watched the first half hour - not a jump or skip in sight, and there was even a noticeable improvement in the quality of the movie - Memorex was a bit grainy IMO. Can't wait to try out the Fuji, although I'm pretty confident I will be satisfied with them as well!
So thanks to all of you, and especially wolfniggr, saugmon and scubabud! Now that I have the media angle of it sorted out, I think I'm good to go - but I'll hang around and see what else I can learn and share whatever info I've picked up!
THANKS!!! Jen

Saugmon, you know you?re A++OK here as well!
Jen, let?s not forget wolfniggr and andmerr for their input as well, especially since they are always right there to help anyone with a concern or question. That article posted by andmerr and written by Pete will always stick in my brain. Thank god it?s a small article huh? <G>
And thank you also Jen for your input and again best of luck with your burns.
By the way, are the media codes what Saugmon and Jim mentioned earlier? I think I?m going to try out the YUDEN000 media if that?s what it shows as. They are rated at 16X for my burner. The MCCRG20 is rated at 12X for my burner. So much to choose from now!!!!

That is cause you can't back up the many posts that you jump in defending those piece o' crap CMC (f)mags. Everytime someone suggests that the CRC error might be those things you jump in a say no way. I know your full of it. Why don't you let that garbage go? Do you work at memorex?
You said in another post:Quote: I have to give Memorex some support because i have over 100 movies saved but you need to use the dvd+r.I had to try a few programs before i could find 1 that would work so don't give up & even then some movies will require you using a different program.
Then this:Quote: Jim I've switched to Sony & maxell since but i have movies stored on Memorex from over 3 & 4 years ago & they still play fine.I think it's more of a to each is own thing......LOL (back at ya)
So why then do you say this: Quote: Well my movies play flawlessly everytime..so why bother with other stuff..i've been using Memorex for years & I have movies from 2years ago that still play fine.
This is my fave thread cause it looks like you finally tried to stop BSing. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/161107
