Hi there,

Here's some reading material from Microsoft regarding those errors:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q150314/

You using Windows XP ?
Windows 98 ?

Those error messages seems to be for Windows 98 but they might still apply to Windows XP.

When you attempt to shut down your computer, start Windows, or start a program in Windows, you may encounter error messages that are similar to:

A fatal exception XY has occurred at xxxx:xxxxxxxx
Fatal exception errors are codes that are returned by a program in the following cases:

06: Invalid Opcode Fault
This error is returned if any one of the following conditions exists: ? The processor tries to decode a bit pattern that does not correspond to any legal computer instruction.
? The processor attempts to execute an instruction that contains invalid operands.
? The processor attempts to execute a protected-mode instruction while running in virtual 8086 mode.
? The processor tries to execute a LOCK prefix with an instruction that cannot be locked.

If you really must use Xcopy then DVD Decrypter would be the proggy you want to use with that not Shrink. Use Decrypter to rip the movie to your HD and then open it in Xcopy from the hard drive.

Yes.. If you don't want to do that then AnyDVD is what you need. I don't believe CloneDVD2 & AnyDVD are your problem though. So once you have your computer reloaded why not just load those 2 back on the computer and use them. Many many people use both those proggys with no problem's.

Once it's on your HD you can pick it up with CloneDVD2 - :)

I have problems with CloneDVD2 working with AnyDVD also -

chicoz66,

I don't mean to stray off the topic BUT you have stated you have a PENT 4, 2.9 Mhz - and you are running Win '98.
Quote:
2 hard drives 1 60 and 80
pm 4 2.9 mhz
512 mem.
Is it conceivable that maybe you have a PENT 4, 2.9 Ghz ?

And if that is close, Why are you running Win '98 with a FAT32 file system instead of a NTFS and Win XP ? Windows XP re-assigns it's resources and doesn't have a "Blue Screen of Death" and it crashes hardly ever -

Lastly, though you have told us what size your HD's are you haven't mentioned how much free space you have on the drive where your programs are and where your work takes place - this information is of extreme importance -

Again, we need some clarification if you will -

Pete

chicoz66,

I hate to beat a dead horse But to clear my mind I have to ask you once again,

You have stated you have a PENT 4, 2.9 Mhz

Is it conceivable that maybe you have a PENT 4, 2.9 Ghz ?

I'm hoping you made a mistake ?

and again,

How much free space you have on the hard drive where your programs are and where your work takes place - this information is of extreme importance

I'm running the same programs and haven't been able to duplicate your problem . . . .

hey scuba pete
this is what i found on this clone program does not sound good ...

Clone DVD Reviewer's Comments
Clone DVD by DVD X Studios is a great DVD copying product that has a good feature set and built-in CSS decryptor. It copies your original DVD movie, including the menus and extra footage, to a blank disc in 3 easy steps. About the only features it lacks compared to our number 1 ranked product (see product comparisons) is it doesn't have the ability to copy to CDs, it cannot compress a DVD-9 to a single disc, and it's not quite as intuitive.

Feature set:
Some of the key features that Clone DVD offer include; the ability to remove the CSS encryption, make a DVD from VOB files on your hard drive, and the ability to copy all the menus, subtitles, bonus features, etc. to two discs, or just copy the main movie to a single disc.

One reason that this product did not rank as highly as some of the others we reviewed, is it doesn't have the ability to compress a larger DVD-9 to fit on a blank DVD disc. Instead, you need to split up the movie onto two DVD discs.

Ease of use:
Clone DVD is functionally easy to use and has a simple process but it's not as intuitive as it should be. The interface lacks the sleek design and instruction of other products we reviewed and resembles an old Windows install wizard.

Ease of installation & setup:
This product is very easy to install and comes with a CSS decryptor.

Quality of copy:
Since there is no compression of the original DVD, the quality is exactly the same. All of the menus and bonus materials were also copied flawlessly.

Program stability:
When we attempted to copy a movie using CloneDVD, the process was smooth until we reached the burning step in the copying process. Once the burn button was pressed the software would freeze up the entire system. We attempted to burn it three different times, all with the same result. We then switched computers and the software performed perfectly and produced an excellent copy.

Summary:
Overall, Clone DVD is a good option if you want to backup smaller DVDs, or you only want to copy the main movie to a single disc. If you need additional features or like looking at pretty interfaces, you would be better off to look at other solutions.

chicoz66,

Well is seems that you're running a system close to mine :)

I can only surmise that a possibility for your crash is a conflict in software. I run AnyDVD and a ton of other programs including CloneDVD2 (by elby) and have no issues. I used to use Clone DVD2 (Now Clone DVD3) but had issues with the quality as well as backing up several programs but never crashing.

I am running XP with SP2 and all runs well.

To ensure that it is in fact the software, I'd like you to try to backup a DVD using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. -

The step-by-step guide is in my sig

Including the download and installation of the programs it should take you about 1 1/2 hours top from start to finish. Allow AnyDVD to operate BUT uninstall Clone DVD. In the end we will be able to determine if it is your program PLUS, you'll have backed up another DVD - Good deal, Huh ?

As far as your uninstall of your program, - Use "Add /Remove" Programs in your Control Panel. Then clean out your registry to insure you have a clean PC. When we reinstall your program back in, you'll have a virgin install.

Here are 2 Registry Cleaning method

Go into your registry C:\Windows\Regedit.exe and do a search "Ctrl and F" for the program you're trying to eradicate.

Example: DVDCloner II, Nero, etc.

Another way to clean your registry is to use something like RegClean. A Free program that will get rid of a lot of unattached registry files

RegClean ~>

All of those tell me you are confusing CloneDVD with CloneDVD2 by Elby because they are all false statements

Note:

They surely don't apply to CloneDVD2 (by elby)

I've been running that proggy since it came out and those ststements do no apply -

It puts a DVD-9 onto a single dic quite fine (a bit of quality loss when compression is over 83 %) and requires a ripper i.e. DVD43 OR DVDD.

Me think it sounds like this:

the following is a ScubaPete "Bad Buy".

CloneDVD ver2 (by some other guys:( - CloneDVD.net/download.html" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.CloneDVD.net/download.html

I think you should pay closer attention to the settings you used in DVD Shrink (set your "target size" to 4360 MB or even 4300 MB AND use decent media.

Writing to the edge of the disc is like shooting yourself in the foot ~

Compress your DVD to somewhere around 4.3GB instead of the recommended 4360MB. I.e., Go into DVD Shrink, "Edit", "Preferences" then set the "DVD Target Size" to "Custom" and enter 4300MB as the size. Reducing the amount of Data to be burned it keeps your burning away from the disc's edges where the dye on poor quality DVD discs tends to be uneven and may even be brittle and flaking. Nero, DVD2One and most good burning applications will allow you to set the, "DVD Target size".

You may reduce the number of errors and "artifacts" (the "freezing", " skipping", pixelations and other picture abnormalities) when burning poor media by burning at a reduced speed. It has been my experience that burning at 2.4X will succeed where faster burns will not.

The second part of the solution is to always use a decent grade media. I suggest something like those discs made by Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Mitsubishi or RICOH. Unfortunately they are also the discs most plagued by pirate Mfgrs. and for that reason I like dealing with Mertline, Supermediastore OR Newegg who have a great return policy on their products. I have had great luck with Ritek, RiData and Verbatim DataLife Plus discs and their prices are extremely reasonable. As a passing note, when buying Verbatim's, they come with a lifetime warrantee. Return them with your sales slip OR register receipt and a new one will be shipped to replace it.

Cheers,

Pete

Chico,

Man, you have got to learn how to punctuate your sentences. You also have to learn how to use spell check so your posts can be read intelligently.

If your program says the 3 files are opened, go to the location where you downloaded the files and click on the .exe file to install it.
