i wasnt trying to scold you.just helping you put your thinking cap on.anyway,getting your dvdr movies to play was proof enough that your media isnt bad media(people are too gung ho with media brand on this site).
cleaner discs are good for routine cleaning of the lens.alcohol gives you a thorough cleanse of the lens(hey that rhymes).i also found that putting labels on your disc can cause them not to boot.it didnt affect my sony dvd+rs but verbatim wouldnt boot with labels(took label off and it booted).do you put sticker labels on your dvdrs?

if you can play backup movies then you can play backup games. The laser reads the same for both. So there must be something else. If you used the same media for a movie & a game than that isn't it either. If you swap magic boots and asks you to hit x to load, then the swap dvd is fine. That leaves one and only one possible problem. That is your slide tool technique. I would try to pick up a flip top for it, that way you can swap easily without the slide tool.

swap magic doesn't say anything!!!! ABSOLUTLY nothing happens when i put back up and push x. Screen freezes i get a red border aroung half of my tv???

I have a slight problem here. I have tried to back up Fifa Street and MGS3. I applied the fifa street patch and I get both the games to load using swap magic and slide tool. The problem is it freezes alot and i get major slowdowns. Burned both at 1x speed using DVD Decrypter and the media is Maxell DVD-R. Any ideas whats wrong?

did you clean your lens and reset that lens dial to original position?
you pretty much narrowed it down to either your swap magic or your ps2.you have to try a couple more original games with your swap magic to verify this.if you cant play originals with swap then your backups arent an issue right now.and not getting one original game to boot doesnt clarify this point.
check swap magic disc for scratches.then make sure you lock tray all the way in,you should here the game click(or fall)into place.and slide firmly into lock position to ensure game is not semi-locked(but not firm enough to knock over ps2).other than refreshing the toc(which doesnt seem logical) i cant imagine what could be the problem with your swap magic.
as for ps2,adjust and clean lens like i said earlier.and it is important that you try at least one more orginal with swap magic(a different one than first time).that red eclipse screen you freeze on is suppose to last for a split second before the game loads.

I do not recommend adjusting your laser. I've been there before, and trust me...that is your LAST RESORT. Try various types of media. Wal-mart sells Memorex DVD-Rs for $17 a 30 pack. I've never had any problems with them. If you start adjusting that laser, you can make it to where the ps2 doesn't play anything. I had a friend that took the lid off of his ps2 and cut a hole [] over the dvd-rom. That way he could swap discs. I understand that some people say that a dirty lens can cause that, but if your not having any problems with original games, thats not the problem. I am begging you, please, do not try to adjust your laser. Try different media and try Nero burning rom to burn the games at the slowest speed possible.

I dont recommend memorex dvd-r discs, and neither does a lot of people.

i dont mind dicussing this with you but we cant go and start a debate on someone elses thread.maybe start a new thread called truth and myths about patching.right now this thread is about rachellew getting her games to work.who is probably getting pissed at the way her thread is turning out.so if you want start a new thread or ask markps2 to start one since he is the one inquiring about patching.

ive been talking to her for a while,she had adjusted her lens before.i was telling her to put it back to its orginal position then clean her lens while she gots it apart.she cant get original ps2 games to boot which would make the fact her backups arent working obsolete at this point.she only tried one original game and im trying to get her to try another to definitely see if she cant boot an orginal.

first of all he was totally off the subject with his question.he needs to start his own thread if he needs help.second of all it was quik advice to try to burn without the patch to see if it works.you dont go try to fix a problem by assuming a special fix is needed to make your games work when you didnt even try them the original way you usually do to find out there was a problem to begin with.i put a little humor in there to lighten up the situation because he is obviously not getting the help he needs from the people who suggested he use the patch.now quit making an issue of my comments about your patch solution and go help that guy if know its gonna work.and im not saying markps2 is at fault for posting his problems on someone elses thread.he might be new to this site and doesnt know how to start his own thread.
now go help somebody patch something.trust me there are plenty of people on this site that are having trouble with your patch theory.

i have read throught his post again,and it seems u are getting no where,
this almost definetly sounds like an issue with the media you are using,
you have a version 7 ps2,which is one of the best released for booting backups.
does the swapmagic disc boot up?.....you know you just put it in the ps2 like u would for a normal original right?
boot it,....then use swapmagic....,
if the movies are not playing,then find someone who has got some burnt movies and start from there,
try as many different types of dvd's as possible,borrow, steal , anything
just get one to work
you can buy sample packs with lots of different samples in.
i would suggest leaving the games for now....and try and get a movie to play,
at least then,once you get one playing there is nothing wrong with the laser
movies are easier to test than games

Thanks for the replies people. I think the lens might be the problem how can I clean it? All my origional games boot and run smooth using swap magic & slide tool.
I have read through some forums and heard about moving the lens to make the game run quicker? I need help I have slowdown & freezing problems!

i doubt cleaning the lens will do much good,i have ps2's for years and have never cleaned the lens,and have never had a problem with them
slow loading/freezing is more associated with cheap media,
and like i told you before fifa street needs a patch applying
