oh yeah, the best way to use your original ps2 scart with the jvc plugs(yellow, white, and red)is to hook up a vcr or dvd that has jvc input and output connections and plug the ps2 up to the vcr/dvd.
and the tvs you used were PAL or NTSC?the reason i ask is usually when you have a PAL ps2 you have a PAL tv and NTSC ps2=ntsc tv.maybe the problem lies with your tv being PAL or NTSC and your friends being the other than yours.are you now in the u.s.?which tv did you use street fighter(with the original ps2 scart)on?and did you use all boot options(normal,NTSC,and pal)then?
The PS2 is PAL, the TVs are all PAL, nothing has been imported in regards to hardware, the only thing that is imported is the NTSC backups of the games that wont work.
I'm in the UK, I always have been in the UK in regards to this problem.
I also used all boot options for the games, they made absolutely no difference.
I don't mean to be rude as you're trying to help, but I've answered these questions at least five times now, please check back to my previous posts.
well i read over the posts and didnt get any clue to where you where at(the enviroment you were in)or the types of tvs being used except for name brands(but that doesnt specify NTSC or pal).hell,i didnt know your ps2 was PAL until i asked.but now it is clear that everything around you is PAL.so theres no problem in that concern now.
but now gettihg everything straight, you said you tried street fighter(ntsc) with the original ps2 scart and got unusual results(possibly meaning different).but the details werent giving as to which tv you used it on or which boot option you used to get it to boot(although not work properly).i think there might be something in there that might help understand your problem.
I got mixed up between two separate threads on two separate websites that I've asked this question on and for some reason I didn't mention that I'm in the UK and that everything here is PAL. Once again, totally my mistake and I apologise.
Okay regarding my most recent effort that resulted in odd results:
The TV was a Philips, roughly a 25 inch maybe 28, I'd say 5 years old maybe more. When I set the PS2 up and got everything connected, I loaded Swap Magic 3.3 and when it loaded up, I swapped the discs (It's the PSTwo with Magic Switch so I have to leave the flip lid up for it to work) and set SM to NTSC and pressed X. I've tried many different combinations (NTSC and Square, PAL and X, PAL and Square, Normal and X, Normal and Square, etc) and none work reliably on these TVs, but on the Sony TV all I need to do is put Swap Magic in, let it load, swap discs and press X and it works flawlessly.
Okay so once the game started to load, I'd get a black screen for around 10 minutes, the laser light wasnt moving back and forth reading the disc, but the disc was spinning and the PS2 was effectively in "Standby mode". Once the disc began accessing, the menu popped up with the game selection (SFAE has multiple game modes) so I chose the first one to pop up and then the black screen returned and another ten minutes passed by before the game even displayed the "Now Loading..." message in the bottom right hand corner.
After that I just removed the disc and gave up.
I'm going to try another PAL backup, my friend lent me Midnight Club 3 PAL version so I'm going to make a backup and try it out at my friend's place. If that works, it may leave an indication as to why only PAL games are working and NTSC games arent.
