do like in Minority Report, anyone who will become a lawyer gets deported to a deserted island before they become lawyers.

I was one of the few folks who actually submitted site redesigns for Lightning_uk. I doubt he will use this but if you want to take a look here is a prototype I came up with. Don't expect it to work like the real site though. It is just one of the prototypes I made:

Personally, I like it a whole lot better than the old site, can't believe anyone would make a legal flap over it, just my two cents :~)

lmao, mel was fantastic in that one. But seriously i wouldn't be surprised if the 'thought police' are watching sites like his, like this one, and any of the other popular ones, closely..

All they will find out from their monitoring is that we all are smarter than they are, just as Mel was :~)

He basically took an exsisting website, removed their headings/logos etc and added his own. they got pissed at this and decided to threaten him with legal action unless he removed it. If you noticed, there was a interim design which is the one now missing.

The design I provided is coded differently than the original and interim sites. I used XHTML and CSS instead of a table based HTML layout. Hopefully he will use something like this. Folks with dial-up and non-IE6 browsers will have a lot better access to his pages if he does.

The original site was buggy at best and why anyone would complain about their POS site being ripped off is beyond me. Decrypter and lightning_uk deserve a modern site with lightweight, standards compliant coding.

well there you have it. What can i say apart from what i posted to that article -

what can i say, there's far too many busybodies out there twiddling their thumbs, being petty and generally just opposing stuff like this instead of getting real jobs. Lightning UK will no doubt move onto something else or better, i know i'm not alone in wishing him all the best, and thanking him for a fantastic product, and the forums were a fantastic wealth of information.

Its all been said before - but I just want to pass on my thanks to Lightning UK! for a superb program, for spending all of his time fixing it and caring enough about it to run a support forum as well.

All the more amazing as the prog was donationware - some other pay to use software companies could learn a lot from the big fella.

Decrypter - Gone but not forgotten....

...ands that's the kicker, LUK wasn't even selling the product, ie not taking big profits away from 'the company'

Ok I'm a bit confused. Has he received a cease and desist order or is someone suing him for 'copying' their website :) What new protection will they come out with next that decrypter will not be able to bypass? However most should be able to continue to use the software on their existing collection of dvds. Could be the misfortune of folks posting on other forums about using rentals and backing them up. A personal store bought dvd all should have the right to backup paid for property. Guess that means now I'll have a stack of blank tys and verbs in the corner collecting dust if i can't backup dvds in the next coming months. Actually this might cut into profits of movie companies simply due to the consumer not taking risks and only purchasing movies based on word of mouth. I for one will have to considerably cut down on buying new dvds if I can't burn a copy to use at spur of the moment get togethers at home.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

Post reply that is interesting from Setarip at Digital Digest
Quote:
In this era of the almost spontaneous, universal dissemination of information it's extremely dangerous to accept what you read at face value.

Although the plight of "LIGHTNING UK!" and DVD Decrypter may very well prove to be true, the only quoted "direct" source is the "cdfreaks" site, claiming to have received from "LIGHTNING UK!", the email quoted at that site.

1) I'm sure most people posting to these forums know of the possible shenanigans that can be perpetrated online ("spoofing", etc.)

2) It seems curious to me that "LIGHTNING UK!", a moderator at these forums for a very long time, apparently hasn't bothered to communicate this information to "admin", the owner of these forums. I base this supposition on the fact that, as of only a few minutes ago, "admin" was posting to the famous "Soccer" thread in the "Off Topic" sub-forum

3) It's also curious that what I believe was the first posting to these forums regarding this was done in the "General Discussions" sub-forum by (say this name slowly) "Stu-Pidasso", registered back in March 2005, but making his/her very first post today at:

http://forum.digital-digest.com/sho...7645#post267645

4) Far less significant, but curious nonetheless, is the inclusion in the beginning of the statement attributed to "LIGHTNING UK!, of an oddly UN-British sounding remark, "Let?s start with the good.... (tumble weed passes by)

As I said, this sad situation could perfectly well prove to be true but, I really don't think anyone should contribute to "spreading the word" until there is absolute substantiation.

From the Slysoft site
Quote:
Is Slysoft a new company from Elby?

No! We re a software company on the beautiful island Antigua. We have our own management and software developement team. We purchased software from Elaborate Bytes and continue the developement. Our relationship to Elby is based on business.
Quote:
Why is your software not available in stores?

We distribute ous software online only. It is prohibited by law in the most european countries.
They are hiding themselves well, unless Bush plans on taking them over.
