I got the DMA on without any trouble. When I tried to download aspi, I got a window telling me to unzip it, then nothing happened after that. There is a file now called aspi on my hard drive, with all kinds of files but nothing that really tells me how to open or install it. When I open NeroInfoTool, it tells me aspi is still not installed.

no worries, a bit more digging and i found it. Have a quick read thru, it's one of the most straightforward firmware guides i've read in a while - http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/Howto/WinFirmware/winfirmware.html
Basically it looks simple enough - you run the exe file mentioned in my last reply, then reboot and i guess run the Nero info-tool again just to check the firmware version is 0060. Then i gotta re-read the post to remind myself what the original problem was as i've forgotten!

Thanks! I've updated the firmware- is there anything else I should do now, or should I go ahead and try burning again?

download dvdinfopro (free) and do a media info check (2nd icon from top left in dvdinfopro and paste the results here. Sounds like we need to trek down the media route next if you're happy you've updated the firmware.. i assume it's the fuji you're talking about here (it's always possible you have some fake fuji)...
(and keep in the back of your mind that this drive 'might' be a dud)
- quote from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193674 - Quote: Do not get me started on this drive I own one and it resides in a box, after sending it back to mfr once. It burns slowly and does not live up to its specs. It has media recognition problems, and it does not matter if it branded or not, and burns have errors. It is made by BTC and you will find a whole forum dedicated to BTC drives at CDFreaks, you can read up on a number of problems other users are having

minouche I asked you for this a week ago. You got the best of the best in media. It can't be that. And yes I'm still following :)

well short of saying the drive is crap, i'm stumped and have completely forgotten what the original problem was.
What is strange is that piccy of dvd identifier is suggesting new firmware is needed, though 0060 was the latest i could find.
I throw in the towel :)
